What Size(s) ? Empty What Size(s) ?

Hej!
I'm not ready to join the ranks yet as I've put less than 200 mi on my new 07 1300R,
but I'd like to prepare by knowing the pros and cons of the different sizes. I'm inclined
to stay with a (near) stock size (to avoid modifying the rear fender) and I'm guessing that to be a 165/80/15.
I'd like to know how that compares to a 185/80/15(?).

Like most, my speedometer seems to be off (indicated reads higher than actual) so will a
different size correct it and if so, what size?

Also, other than Ebay, I've not had any luck on finding a (stocking) distributor for the
165/80/15 in Long Beach, CA. Any suggestion there?

Cheers and a Great 2008!

Most are running a 165/15. It is a metric tire and there is no middle number. I have a kumho 165/80/15 that is a popular tire we run. You will not have to modify your fender at all to run this tire. Only if you go with a wider rim off an 1800 or an after market rim. Most have to make no mods at all with the 1800 rim . only those that have gone with an extreme wide tire have to do anything, then usually only a little grinding.

Good luck

Rmnc3,

Right now we suggest the 165R15 for your first darkside tire if you have a stock 1300 rim. The 185's tend to be too short and cause the speedo to be off way more than it is.

There is a urban myth that there is a tire that's a 205 that fits the 1300, but no one has seen a picture yet. Most car tires that are NOT a VW tire are made to fit a 7" wide rim. Our stock 1300's come with a 4" wide rim and tires that are 7" will NOT seat the bead. I tried plenty of them, till I found the error of my ways and went to the VW 165R15 tire or as you say (165/80/15) same tire.

JMO.............the 165 is the way to go. Plus it looks wider because of the broader profile than a 180mm stock motorcycle tire.

I hope this answers some of your questions...If not, ask some more.

.............bobby

ps....plus with the 165, NO other mods required!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
