Wish me Luck....
Starting tomorrow morning at 8:00 am I will begin my official training to become a MSF "Rider Coach" as they call them now. Some of you know I've been preparing for it with "Range Aide" weekends, etc... But now it's finally here. I will be in school Wednesday thru Sunday 8am to 5pm... then I skip a week and finish up the training on April 25 thru the 27th, for a total of 8 days. Then if all goes well as I plan it I will be at the top of my class and pass with flying colors! Or at least that's my goal.
Should I bring an apple? Ha ha ha... LOL... talk to y'all soon.

Re: Wish me Luck....
Hey, I'm already "that guy"
congrats on going through this, I'm a RiderCoach here in WY and all I got to say is be thankful you're not going through it here. WY is one of only two states that maintain total control over the MSF program in their state, and has the strictest requirements to being a riderCoach. We had to go through the normal MSf training and then about 100 hours or so of WYDOT training. Every year we have about 30 new guys trying to get on board and each year ends up with about 2-3 new RiderCoachs, usually to replace the 2 or 3 who quit from last year due to our boss being "over demmanding"
I love it, it's a blast for sure and I'm actually thankful of how strict thigns are around here cause it definately pays off in the quality of education the student recieves.
My only word of advice is to take ti seriously while having fun and if you're not willing to do it 100% don't do it at all.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me or give me a call (307)277-6878

Re: Wish me Luck....
Good luck with the course Darkshadow. Got nothing but respect for the guys that coach the course.
When I went through the msf course last year I was riding darkside. I rode my bike to the course, with them knowing I was there to get my M endorsement, everyday. I was a darksider then too. There were 2 coaches, a young 20's something (read crotch rocket rider) and a 50's something guy. The young un noticed the car tire and immediately commenced to tell me it wouldn't work. The old guy shut him up by saying apparently it does as he rode it in.. The next morning the young un had a new perspective of the car tire as we went for a ride after class that day. Now he believes it works and also knows it friggin sticks. Sorry for the hyjack.
Have fun in the class and like George said take it seriously.
See you out there

No you didn't Hijack it at all....
On my range aide days I road my bike in on the Darkside of course... My "boss" if you will, the gentleman that I will be working for noticed it right away and was really intrigued by it. Didn't bat an eye. He was all questions ..... in a positive way. I was glad he didn't give me a hard time. I actually think he was impressed, as he know how I ride and has seen me ride as well.
I've got a friend I ride with that has a VTX 1300... I might get him to go darkside soon. and I've even got a harley guy wanting to put one on his HD, who'd a thunk it!

Re: Wish me Luck....
The HD buddy of yours will have to replace his rear wheel. So far we have not found a tire to fit them.
Good that your "boss" was positive about the darkside. I love fielding questions about the whole car tire thing. I really like the ones when you are just standing around bull shitting and someone starts with "dude, what the hell is that?" It usually goes all uphill from there.

Good luck on ya! It's always nice when you meet someone who says, "Well they're DOING it so it must work to SOME degree" and keep their minds open. Unlike some we've run into... LOL

Re: Wish me Luck....
So? How's it going so far??? Having fun I hope.
Oh yeah, you're going to love the questions that some of your students will inevitably throw your way. My favorite is from a ditzy little blonde that went something like this....
(she stall bike for the millionth time)
Me: So, why did your bike stall that time??
Her: I dunno, was it that clutch thingy again??
Me: Well, did you squeeze it in when you came to a stop?
Her: I guess not..(pause and look of confusion) .... So, do, like I umm have to squeeze in that clutch thingy evertime I stop????
Me:(restraining a laugh) Not every time, just the times you want the engine to stay running
I absolutely love being a ridercoach, it's the funnest job ever.
Have fun,
George

Now George, you know that needs a picture or small video to go along with that. There are some that would love to know what she looked like.
I plan on going back and taking the advanced rider's course, my original instructor didn't like the idea of a Darkside, kinda of have to wonder what he'd think if I showed up on mine and passed with flying colors.

David, you have to let us know how your first day was......
I dont expect pictures, yet, but a simple sentence would work for now.
Inquiring minds and all that.

I have NO problem doing that... It's a requirement and Oh So possible in the Experienced Rider Course! Done that, got the certificate! I practice that every time I goto a training weekend. In the ERC course you actually have a longer BOX to start out with but now I do the small 20' wide box you guys did in BRC course. It's great practice. It's all about HEAD/Eyes turn and Counterbalance and knowing how far you can lean your bike and of course Clutch/Brake control.
Gosh... that sounded like something I've heard before
First two days have been GREAT. Yes, I'm having FUN. There is A LOT of information but it's all digestible after a good download in the evening. I have some homework I need to go do.
Talk to you tomorrow!!

Re: Wish me Luck....
Sweet, glad everything is going good and you're having fun. And yes a VTX can go through the entire BRC if you know how to ride. The hardest is probably exercise #6 on the VTX, but with a little scraping of the hard parts it is doable.
Have fun and keep us up to date.
