Out of round tire
Hi, I'll check before I pitch the new tire.
I ended up buying a tire at a local shop and having a buddy at work mount, seat the bead and balance it. Now I brought it home and put it on my own balancer and discovered that my tire is out of round. The odd thing is that where it's shallower the sidewall appears to pancake a little bit more than the rest of the tire. Just curious if anyone thought this might be a bead issue or if I should just pitch it and try to find another tire! Thanks

Re: Out of round tire
Thanks for the Welcome! Though nope,
I already called the guy and he told me once it's mounted to a rim, they won't take it back. Needless to say I won't be going to his shop again -_-

Scroodat. Remount the tire and see if it evens out. Use "Tire Shine" or any equivalent silicone tire shiner for lube, and I'll

Re: Out of round tire
I've had an out of round tire, but that was decades ago and haven't heard of one for a long, long time. If it truly is out of round and the ass dealer will not take it back on trade-in, contact the manufacture and I'm sure they will do the right thing.
Trying to ride on it would be dangerous, and it has nothing to do with mounting. Once it's mounted and the rim is not out of round and the tire is fully seated all the way around on both side, it would have to be the tire. First make sure you can see the little ring just outside the rim that will indicate if it's fully seated.

Re: Out of round tire
Exactly, bro. I think that actually is the reason for the rings; to check the mounting. I recall changing big truck tires and when a bead was looking messed up, we took a 10 lb. sledge and just WAILED DOWN on that sucker, which would allow it to move out to where it should be. Happily, my new Dunnie slid on at 30lbs.

Re: Out of round tire
I hadn't thought about it but when I was spinning it on my balancer my eyes were drawn to that ring! Maybe that is it's purpose.
