OIL Synthetic or no? Empty OIL Synthetic or no?

Post  briankanderson Sun Sep 23, 2012 8:28 am

I just bought a 2002 VTX1800. Most of the bikes before now have been vintage so never used synthetic oil. My buddies have recommended synthetic oil for the vtx to keep it running cooler, etc. Does anyone have an opinion on which oil to use? I am all for keeping it cooler but wanted to check with all the experts. Let me know, I appreciate any info. Brian

Never use anything but Mobil 1 in mine. And the good old walmart filter. Which out performed all but a couple other filters.

Mobil1 all the way, unless you want to spring for Amsoil. Change the filter halfway through cycle and engine should last forever, even
going 6K or more per change.
