Tire Wear Empty Tire Wear

Post  johnnie1 Mon Sep 17, 2012 7:35 am

Have about 11,000 miles on my C/T and it is starting to show more wear in the middel of the tire than anywhere else. Have played with the air pressure a couple of pounds didn't seem to make any diffrence. Looks like I will get around 16,000 was hoping for more but that is better than 8,000 out of a M/T. Have read where some riders get 16,000 out of a motorcycle tire, my question is How 8,000 to 8,500 miles and mine are done I quess they must put,put around a lot...

What tire? What pressures for how long?
Dollar gets a donut you're running too high. Does it track on grooved pavement or follow ruts badly? Have you tried a chalk stripe across the tire for a couple blocks to see hot it's contacting?

Unless you are doing John Force style burn outs, it sounds like you might be running a bit too high of pressure.
Depends on what tire you are using though, I know some non-runflats need higher psi to make up for their flexible sidewalls
and premature wear in the center is the trade off you make with them. hmmm

I have been running 38 to 40 the General tire is not a run flat but I have to keep it higher because of the TPMS it seems to feel the best at 40 lbs as far as performance goes. What kind of miles do most of you get out of your C/T. Thanks in advance for the replys.

Which General are you running? I just made a new topic about the Altimax HP. Only about 10,000 miles on mine. I only paid $85 bucks for it so I am still on top compared to an MC tire but thought I would get more. I run at about 40 psi.

These are supposed to be 40-50000 mile tires, I put one on my sons Vstar 1300 but he doesn’t too many miles yet. I know that the type of roads in your area have a lot to do with the tire wear also. Here we have “chip seal roads” which eat up tires and windshields. I have seen 60000-mile tires only go 25000 on our cars.

I am running the General G-Max very happy with the performance was just hoping for a little more miles, I paid 110.00 for my G-max with shipping beats 210.00 for a M/T. Thanks for the reply.
