Solid rims catch wind?
Heard someone here at work say that solid rims (like on a Harley fatboy) catch the wind - more than spoke bikes. Made sense, but wondered if it were actually true.
I know there are versions of the 1300 and 1800s that have more solid rims (not spokes and more solid than the spirit). Wondered if any of you have noticed being pushed sideways more by the wind.......?

Hadn't really noticed anything. I had spokes on my last bike, but it was a smaller bike too. I do notice that the bike handles better in the wind with the darkside than with the stocker.

Re: Solid rims catch wind?
yup, they do! Most of the guys who run them (the fatboy solid) complain about how bad they are in a crosswind!

Re: Solid rims catch wind?
My friend Craig had a fat boy and said his only complaint was windy days.

Never had a solid wheel, but had a fully dressed BMW K1200LT and it caught every little bit of wind there was. It makes more sense. more surface area equales more wind resistance.

Yup, that's the second biggest issue I've heard about FatBoys, the first is the ride. Some like it, and some really hate the ride you get, as for me never ridden one. I have a buddy who has one and he's happy that he switched out his wheels from a solid piece to on that allows air to pass through.

Are Sabre's and 1800s the same where they have nearly solid rims?

Reloading.......
These two Honda's, 1300 and 1800 have nearly solid rims. Wondering if THEY caught wind like the FatBoy does....
