Heads Up With Sealed Rims Empty Heads Up With Sealed Rims

Not sure if this was covered or not, but I ran over a piece of metal this weekend and ended up having to use Fix A Flat after I plugged it. It was the only way I was going to get to an air station. Anyways, popped the tire off today and what a freakin mess with the sealant completely loose and broken down by the fixaflat. So for those with sealed rims, be careful and just know it WILL eat away the sealant.

On the brighter side of the dark side Razz I am now re-appliing the 5200 and already have a new TT sitting there waiting. The last one was on for about 3.5 years. Not too shabby IMO!

Good Riding All!

After my leak, then broken spokes pulling the trailer (*even after adjusting them) I went to solid Fatboy wheels.
I won't go back - WELL worth the money.

You didnt say what type of sealant you used to seal the rim.
This may help also.

I used the M5200, but didn't give it the full week curing time, since I had a club run coming up. That is probably why
a spoke nipple leaked on me. It's pretty tough and spectacular stuff regardless. Sticky too. Turns into hard rubber -
eventually.

Considering how it stuck to my workbench top, I think you need a jackhammer and blowtorch!!!

If you take a knife and make a cut in the 5200 and then you can get it started and peel it off.
Or look closely at the 5200 and you may be able to see where it is leaking through it.
May be better off to start over.
I have done 12 or so rims with 100% sucess untill the last one and it was my fault, I just was watching what I was doing. I leaked aroud the valve stem.
I dont get a notice or e mail that someone has posted or ask a question. dont know why.
