900 vulcan - 1998 1500 tires Empty 1998 1500 tires

Post  Rick Clark Sat Aug 06, 2011 11:54 am

Smile Hi all I am looking to buy a stock 1998 Vulcan Classic but the bike is 60 miles away and I can not check it out but I know he put a new rear tire on it. ( stock size ). My ? is can I take it of and install it on the front as it needs a new one 17,000 miles on this one? He says that what the speedo reads.
Then what would be the best tire CT size that would correct the speedo?
I guess that a good radial would be best? Any info. will be taken in.

Thanks if I need more info. let me know. Rick

The rear tire will fit on the front , but run it in the reverse rotation of the directional arrow and you may have too clearance (grind off) some of the fender lip. The speedo drive is front wheel driven so rear tire won't effect speedo calibration . the gain of the front tire will be minimal and may actually work too your advantage because 1500 classic speedos are infamous for being just a little off. So a 195/60/16 car tire tucks nicely under your future ride...

Maxxis touring 160/80/16 rear tire on front, and 195/60/16 Dunlop sp5000 car tire on rear on a 1996 Classic
Disclaimer = the front and rear wheels of my bike are modified , but a stock vn1500d/e front wheel can accept a 150/80/16 tire and the stock rear wheel can fit a 195/60/16 car tire.

900 vulcan - 1998 1500 tires Empty New to me 1998 Vulcan

Well I bought the Vulcan and is it nice YES!!! Only 17,000 miles wow! Love the torque of the 1500 and the classic styling.
It has a new Bridgestone Spite Fire on the rear and a almost wore out Avon on the front, time to change things up. It is a blackwall on the rear so a CT will look good on it.
It has no rust and the chrome is like new, and it has a real nice too tone paint job.

Well I am asking has anyone put this tire on a 1998 classic rear The Primacy Alpin PA3 ZP (Zero Pressure) is Michelin's Performance Winter / Snow run-flat tire developed to meet the wintertime driving needs of MINI Coopers fitted with Original Equipment run-flat tires.? if you have pictures can you post some? Thanks Rick
