Changing tire
I was wondering when you guys go darkside do you change the tire by hand, or use a shop and do they do it by hand or with a machine. I was kinda of thinking about getting a tire changer but was wondering if it would handle a C/T. thanks

Re: Changing tire
I do all my tire changes by hand. I have a nice set of motion pro spoons as well as a couple of other tire tools I've picked up over the years. I do so many of them by hand I'd not know how to handle having a machine

Re: Changing tire
Hey Phil,
Up till now we had a shop doing ours, but....it's closed now. So, it looks like I will do them by hand now myself unless I can find a shop!...hehehehehe Well, with the wideside it might be another two years before I need another car tire.
Of course, "Gary in Indiana" and his dyna beads are going to make it easy without needing a balancing machine.

Re: Changing tire
I too have done both changes by hand and by me in my garage. I enjoy working on it myself.

Re: Changing tire
I'd be really appreciative of someone that does this with spoons and irons posting a step by step with pictures. I'd be a lot easier for me if I could do this stuff myself.

Re: Changing tire
Would something like this be able to seat the bead? It says it can deliver 200psi. I think most of these tires are seating well under 150.

I saw one like it at harbor freight, was 275 psi, 12 volt, said it would inflate a normal car tire in 6-7 min.
Might take a while to seal a tire....

Wow! 250psi @ $10 and 1.4lbs and could fit pretty much anywhere you wanna store it. What do ya think? probably 15 min to get a bead sealed?

Re: Changing tire
You really need a compressor with a tank on it as it is the volume of air as well as the pressure that seats the tire on the rim.

Re: Changing tire
Just what he said. Most of the time you have small leaks until the bead is seated and the volume will help keep the pressure rising until the tire seals. On some tires I've had to take out the valve stem core just to get enough airflow (volume) in there to "pop" out the tire.
With these wider tires on narrow rims you might get away with it though.
