Side Wall size ? Empty Side Wall size ?

Post  The Zombie Fri Apr 22, 2011 9:26 am

Hello everybody !
Trying to do as much research as I can before mounting a CT on my VTX. I have just put on the 8 degree Triple Trees with 4 inch extensions , and 10 1/2 inch rear shocks. I have shaved the rear fender a considerable amont and have come to the conclusion that the Michelin Hydro 205/15 is the right tire for the bike. I was wondering if there is alot of difference between the 70 vs 65 vs 60 tires. Most seem to favour the 70 series, while I was wondering about the 60.
Any comments or ideas would be appreciated before I take the next step. I'm running a 180/15 Dunny right now.
Thanks, I enjoy reading this forum. Question

Zombie, first of all welcome to this site and congrats on going dark.
To find out which tire size will be the best for you is hard to say, since you did
some mods to your bike which affected the normal set up. Your bike might
not be level by this time.
Besides, you did not mention your present tire size correctly, you forgot to mention
the height.
Normally you take a CT which will be the same height as the old MT.
To find out which will come the closest just check these sites;

Thanks Robert...typo error.
I'm running a 170-80-15 Dunlop K555.
The bike's trail is perfect as the 10.5 shocks brought everything together properly.
What I was really wondering about was the height difference between the 70 and 60 car tire.
Thanks for the websites, the tire size calculator gives alot of info.

I have a HE 205/70-15 on my 1300C with 11" PS 412's and they work fine even 2-up.

The 70 will mount on the rim of the 1300. The 60 I believe would need a wider rim. Most that go with the 69 series are 1800's with 16" rims that are wider. Personally I would not go below the 65 series. I'm sure someone will jump in about how it would effect your top end speed.

If your trail etc. is fine right now then the 205/65-15 would be the best size for you
according to the calculators.
Good luck and let us know. Pic's are always welcome. Wink
