I am trying to decide what tire I need....I just bought a trailer hitch off another VTX 1300.
Mine is an R model.
The other guy had a stock 170/80/16 on his bike and said there was very little clearance....I did not see the bike.
What can I get away with? This is an inside the fender hitch by the way. Mine is a stock 170/80/15
I am thinking 165/80/15...anybody !???

The 165/80/15 will work fine, but the more meat on the road the better if you can get away with it. Now first of all...us telling you what will work and what want with seeing any pics or measurements or a brand is just that... a guess what will work.

If you could go with a 205/65/15, I recommend this size if it fits??? You have better options for tires if you go this route.

Can you give us some more data or measurements???

Thanks and congrats on your choice to go darkside! You will love it.

How about if I go this route ....if I put the 205 on will I be able to remove the fender and install the hitch later WITHOUT removing the tire?
That way I could to some 'refab' work if needed....

I assume so, but you haven't gave us any measurements or what kind of hitch to allow us to help! You will love the 205 for sure!

I guess I may have a BIG problem. I bought the hitch used off a VTX 1300 (same bike as mine) so I don't know what kind it is. It may be a home built but it is very well made.

Sorry, I am so full of no info..

The 205/70/15 will work... I have seen an 1800 with a 205/60/16 and a hitch...
Will it work with your hitch on a 1300? You'll have to try it to find out.

Awesome....let us know if you have any other trouble! Be sure you wear the mold release off the tire before you start dragging pegs and such!

No idea about a hitch in combination with what tire, but welcome to the Darkside.
No matter what you choose, it will be great.
Enjoy it,
Robert.
