Here are the potential tires for our bikes.

165/80/15 (Kumho 165/80/15 Power Star 758)
175/70/15 ?
185/x/15 (Barum Bravuris 185/65-15)
195/65/15 (Douglas 195/65R15, Barum Bravuris 195/65-15)
205/65/15 (Douglas 205/65/15 Xtra-Trac A/W, Faulken 512 205/65/15 (may be difficult to seat the bead), Barum Bravuris 205/65-15 H rated)

Sizes with question marks have not been tested. Brands and models listed have been tested and work on a VT1100. See posts for details on specific tirs, bikes and members.

I'm just posting this and we can check off sizes that work. I will update this post as we "prove out" tire brands and models.

Members in the VTX forums have had success with the Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread, Bridgestone Potenza, Michelin Hydro Edge, and General Grabber. These should be fine on the 1100, but nobody has tried them yet. When we get a "success story" we'll update this post.

Great start guys............that's how you build a knowledgeable group and people will want to try it. Most people only do what others have done, so you are on the right track by posting brands and sizes.

.....of course as a note......only post the sizes that are correct and known to work, some guys only read what they want...it's happened before. We have to make it idiot proof...you know for guys like me.

Some interesting tire height info. Note that NOT all the tires below have been tested on our bikes. I just found "A Tire" on the discount tire site for each width.

What the numbers tell me is that the tire that david is trying will be only slightly taller than his 165. And, if a 175/65 fit, it would lower the bike by an inch and a half....

CT tire Height: Formula = (First#) x (middle# / 100) x 2 = Tire height
165/80 = 264mm = 10.39inches
175/65 = 227.5 = 8.96
185/65 = 240.5 = 9.47
195/60 = 234 = 9.21
195/65 = 253.5 = 9.98
205/65 = 266.5 = 10.49

Again, the above tires have not all been tested. Just thought I'd share the height info.

Faulken 512, 205x65x15 did not work. We could not get the bead to seat. We used veggie oil and grease. had the psi up to 125 and held it there. Never did seat.

I still have the tire and may try again in August when it get's up to 105. Maybe this tire REALLY hot will seat.

Tire tread pattern is awesome and the treadwear is rated really high. But we could not get it to work. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Wow! That's a first that one wouldn't seat if it's measurements are correct. I hate that for you because it's a tire I would love to have also. Thanks for the heads up on the Faulken. Some times I have had to take a couple shots at it ourselves to get them to go.

I may try again. May wait till August when it get's really hot, Get the tire on the rim, pump it up a bit, let it get really hot in the afternoon sun, then pump it up to higher psi and see what happens.

I still have the tire and am only out $60, but I knew I was taking a risk. We would have called you saturday if we'd had your number. Oh Well. I have a CT on now. On the way back to Dallas I had the Faulken and MT strapped to the back (insert Beverly Hillbilly music here). I was thinking that I had a lifetime of tires on that bike.....

May try to sell the Faulken if someone in the area wants to give it a go.

A guy had trouble seating one of the tires on my truck. He broke out this contraption that was a tank with a quick release valve on it. He filled it with the compressor, then hooked back up to the valve stem on my tire. Aimed that tank at the rim and flipped the gate valve. pop. It was seated in a few seconds.

Also saw a thing on the discovery channel about these big artic trucks. They squirted a bunch of lighter fluid on the tire and then lit it on fire. The "woof" sound you hear when you light it, caused it to inflate.

Great write-up! I have an '01 1100 Spirit & plan on putting on a Kumho 165 when current m/c tire is gone. I've been reading ttim's posts from the shadow site and this site and your posts-GOOD STUFF!
Also have an '04 1100 Sabre(wife's) and a 1986 Suzuki Cavalcade LX 1400 (like a wing). Cade has a 150/90-15 on rear. Would like to find a ct for it. 165 may be too wide-not sure yet. I know a lot of wings run ct's. Anyway- good info guys-thanks Roger in South Point, Ohio.

Ok, now that Steve-O has had his say.....

This tire was Rough!! I tried every trick I know of with out going to "ether" done tried that too! but not on Steve-O's tire.. It doesn't work very good on CT's on our MT rims. Ask me how I know! I told Steve that the only way I think that Faulken tire would seat the bead is with one of the Tanks that Muntz talked about. The kumho 165 seated like nobody's business with just oil and I think it popped at about 80 or 90 psi... The douglas was a little harder but did pop at about 110 psi.

All in all I enjoyed working on your bike Steve and I'm willing to help any others in the Texas area that might want to go to the "Darkside"

Enjoy your Kumho! Least you got that one for free!

Very Happy

Welcome to the site rogerr.

Right now there are only a few of us shadow guys here and we are glad to have you. If you have any questions about anything I bet David or I could help you find an answer. These VTX guys may be a little different Twisted Evil but they are pretty knowledgable. Just don't ask Muntz to show you how to smoke your tire, and don't ask Twin to send you anything (besides air). Razz Laughing lol!

Again, welcome to a great site. Kick off your shoes and stay a while.

Wanted to bump this to the top. Going to look through the threads and see if any other tires have been used on the 1100.

Since posting this, another member has gotten the Falken to work on the 1100.
