Re: Once you go black
I dont know what im going to do with the motor thats in the bike now. Will decide maybe next year.
may end up pumping it and doing something to it but havent decided yet.
From what I have see, the cost of cams and pistons and everything else is not worth the extra $ for the hp and the torque you get.

Re: Once you go black
Well I finally did have some time to work on the bike again and put the motor in and hook everything up.
Charlie D gave me a hand when I pulled the motor and was sick with the flu when I got ready to put it back in so I did it by myself, and it just dropped right in, seamed to be easier then pulling it.
The engine runs smother the the other, less vibs. But, it dont run as strong as the old engine.
The clutch is a OEM clutch, ans mine was aftermarket and with a modified basket, and that may be where I losing a lot of the power, Going by my butt dyno. I know its not connecting up near as good as mine did. With mine I could pull the front tire off the ground and thats with the 1300 final in. So my next project is pulling the clutch and basket. I wasnt going to do it at first, I thought I would just burn the OEM ones up. but I just cant handle the feel of them and the difference is night and day, I have to put them in, since I have them.

Raining hard now, maybe I will just go take some in the shop.
Had some real nasty weather up here in the NW. Alot of wind damage from last weekend.

Re: Once you go black
This is the best I can do for now.
Maybe I will get around to fixing the dent next winter.
Or maybe not, its got 76,500 miles on it.
It does give it a little character.
The BUBS Cobra does also. Just some pipes I tossed together one day.

Re: Once you go black
Air filter is a HD I got it for my ridged but decided to put it on there. I may just put the forcewinder back on. The forcewinder has gave me problems when you get into a heavy rain, or just rain water off the road. But I like the one thats on there. The forcewinder is off of a Buel.

Re: Once you go black
I've done the football mod on my Harley, so the filter is dead out in the rain. I've ridden in frog chokers with no problem. The only trouble was when sitting in a restaurant, the filter loaded up with water. I started the bike and couldn't use throttle, so just held it there at about 2500 rpm until it cleared (sucked the water thru the motor) and rode off.

Re: Once you go black
I even had the black cover on it when caught in the rain and it still craped out.
Got caught in a hail storm a few years back in Utah and my wife was behind me and she couldnt even see me it was so bad, and we had cars comeing up behind us and my bike was craping out and we got under trees untill it let up.
It has to be a heavy down pour for it to do it.

Re: Once you go black
I may have been a water short somewhere instead of the filter loading up.

Re: Once you go black
Never really thought about a water short.
I know alot of guys run the force winder, a K&N filter, and they dont have a problem.
A friend of mine has a HD heritage and she dont have any problems with hers, infact she went to Wy. a few years ago and got into a rain storm, a bad one, and she was running thru mud about 3 in. deap for about 10 miles and they had to stop at a care wash and clean the bikes they were so bad, and she didnt have any problems, other than keeping the bikes up, but she is a veteran rider, and can ride pretty good. She cant ride the twisties as fast as she would like because the heritage drags everything.
