VN1700 Nomad-2009 back tire change.....anybody done it yet?
Time to change the tire on the Vulcan....anyone done it yet? The part I mean is the removal of tire from the bike....do I remove the right side hardbag and the pipe? Is there a trick to do it and not remove the bag and the pipe? Bagpipe get it?! Also going DS with a Bridgestone Potenza G019 205/60R16. Did this on the old bike and loved the mileage and handling characteristic don't change that much-couldn't wait for the stock Bridgestone to wear out at 7200 miles. Any way....experiences removing this tire and rim from the bike would be appreciated.

Remove both bags, remove shocks, unbolt exhaust and let hang.remove brake calliper and tie out of the way. This gives you good view of everything and room to work with axle bolt.Reinstall with tire deflated. This worked well on my 05 1600 nomad .

Someone new just joined this forum, that rides a Vulcan Nomad. Mickeyger by username. Hopefully, he'll see your post and you two can communicate.
Did it....heres how it went.
I took off both hardbags, dropped the left side pipe, took off the shocks and removed the brake caliper assembley. Jacked it up so the swingarm gave me plenty of room to remove the tire and rim and secured it over the beam over my head with two ratcheting straps from the rider chrome bars in front of the bags....I checked to make sure those were tightened securely first of course. No problems at all. Took about an hour and fifteen minutes to take it off as it was a learning process and about fifteen to put it back together! Bridgestone Potenza G109 Grid 205/60R16. About 200 miles in and all is well. 47psi and it handles fine, 37psi in the front stock Bridgestone. No problems or complaints. Won't buy an MC tire again for the rear. I want to put a 150/80-16 on the front just for beef not for any other reason. Corrected the speedo error to 1.4 mph difference instead of 3.7. It may not be for everyone but it works for me. Ride safe.
