195/55/16

Will the 195/55/16 on on the back of a GL1500

Gary: there was a thread on the GWRRA site some time ago about this. One person said they had done it without interference, but others said they could not install the tire without rubbing on parts of the bike. My experience has been that I dont think I could fit one to my "98 GL 1500 with any clearance. I have not tried to do this: I just feel that after fitting the 175 series tire, I dont see how a 195 could fit. I suspect that perhaps the brand of tire might make a difference (?)

Don't forget the same size in one brand is NOT the size in another brand though the numbers are the same!!! I know, I know, but it's true! Measurement should be measurements, but it aint!

Hey ! any of you wingers out there that have put a 195 series tire on your 1500 ? I think we'd like to hear what brand of tire you used. I for one would really like to put a 195 tire on my 98 wing if I could find one that I knew would fit.
Any experience ? ( I think I will post this on the GWRRA board too, and see what comes up.)
