Advice for a 1000 mile trip???
This June I am taking my refrigeration operator 1 test, the company is paying for me to go to Garden City Ks from Purdy Mo and back. I'm wanting to take the bike, any advice you can give to get ready for the trip would be appreciated. Doc

Don't try to take too much with you. Pack lite.
Try a few 400-500 mile runs before hand. Straight through stop only for necessities.
Make sure the tires are balanced properly. Nothing is worse than a bad vibration on a long trip.
Have fun with it. I just got back from FL. A little over 900 miles each way. On the way down I stopped by a buddies to split it up. Coming back it was flat out on the slab. I still like slab riding, some don't.
Just my thoughts off the cuff.
Good luck with it.

Definately wanna split up the trip there. You wanna be fresh for the testing. Coming home burn the slab if needed. I like dyna beads they keep em balanced for me. I like to have a plug kit and a few basic tools on top of the tool kit. Never needed any of them for my bike but have used them on other scoots. Plug kit used once on mine and rode it a few hundred miles with 3 mushroom plugs in the center of the front tire. Cell phone and plastic just in case are all you really need.
Good luck and enjoy the ride.
See you out there

Even though my Kumho is showing little wear I think I'm going to put a 205 on before I leave. Got dynabeads already, new brakes, fresh rad flush, and I plan on fresh Rotella synthetic before I go. Thanks for the advice.

Do one more thing! Tell your credit card company that you are going on a trip and where and it will make your transactions easier!

1,000 miles go by fast if you stay in it I've done it several times in a day. Just do all the needed maintence like you plan to do and if your brand of bike has a " known " problem keep that in mind and carry replacement part's if possible....Ride It Like You Stole It

You'll do fine. You take good care of your bike, so no worries there. Consider getting your iron butt patch for going 1k in 24 hours. Google iron butt.
I have done several long trips. I mounted a gps that plays mp3 music through ear buds. The ear buds allow enough noise in to be safe and reduces mc noise that might damage hearing. My GPS has made all the difference in the world on long solo trips.
I have a Kyriakan grand something aruther (big bag). I fit all my stuff into it and it serves as a backrest.
Bring extra water.
Fill up often-sometimes it's a ways between gas stations in western Kansas.
Bring a cell phone
Make an emergency contact card with your name, emergency contact, med insurance numbers, mc insurance numbers, and towing numbers. Put this where someone can find it - billfold and inside your helmet maybe.
Have some first aid stuff with you. Deer and pigs are thick in Kansas - especially in the morning. I would not ride at night for that reason. I rode to Little Rock AR last weekend and the deer were thick on the side of the road....like I saw 100 or so in a 50 mile stretch. I was in my car, but still. Made me rethink my iron butt idea.
Bring a camera and take pics.
Good luck!

The advice to stay hydrated is important. Get a drink EVERY time you stop for gas. You'd be surprised how fast you can lose fluid on a hot day even on a G-wing with that BIG windshield and fairing. Pack light: like I tell my wife, you can buy underwear at any Kmart in the US.

make all of your preparations at least one week before your trip. Oil change, tires, and especially anything electrical. Then ride on the changes for a bit. A thousand-mile trip is not a good test-bed.
