Anyone ever
put a larger gas tank on a VLX? I was looking at getting a new bike, but then the new wife had twin girls last month to add to my two boys. Now I gotta just try to improve what I got. (And quit reproducing.) Is there a larger tank that would fit the VLX?

Re: Anyone ever
You can put a tourtank on there.
This is a 3 gallon tank which is good for another 100 miles on my bike giving it a highway range of 276 miles...much farther than my butt can stand....

I'll tell you, I ride an '01 VLX and can get 120 miles out of the tank before switching onto reserve. I find that that is just about as far as my a$$ will go without a break. I don't mind fueling up more frequently because it gives me reasons to stop, stretch and re-inflate my butt.

Wow. I am only getting about 100 miles outa my VLX. I know, opening myself up to some "lose some weight" comments. Should a c/t give better mileage?

Re: Anyone ever
The only way you can get better mileage out of a car tire is if you go to a larger diameter. A 205/70 15 would accomplish that.

Well, first off, I am 275 @ 5'11" so... My mileage runs about 58-60 mpg around town. Noticeably lower when my speed is sustained above 70 mph, about 45 mpg. I didn't notice any difference after I installed my c/t. If you're only running 50 mpg, you may have an issue that is causing your fuel consumption to go up. Mine is a 2001, what year is yours?

Of course I went with a smaller tire, Olds. I ain't the brightest bulb. Simpleman, my VLX is a 2001 as well. I do a lot of highway with it. I tend to ride 65-72mph. What do you think?

I think that would drop my mileage substancially.

Re: Anyone ever
I've noticed a significant drop in fuel economy whenever I take long trips on the interstate. If I run an entire tank of gas at 70 mph, I can only get about 120 miles before hitting reserve, compared to 160 miles cruising at 60.
