Re: Video of Darkside tire failure
So, one Darkside mishap possibly as a result of driver error.
Hundreds of other Darksiders still operating with little to no problems.
I think I'll stay on the Darkside. It looks like the odds are still in my favor.

Re: Video of Darkside tire failure
Tire failures happen with MT also. This one incident doesn't change my mind about running a CT. Any tire will fail if not properly taken care of or if it loses air while riding.

It's a Dunlop Winter 'xxxxx' 3D 'run flat' tire.
Yup, looks like his 'run flat' ran a little too far when flat!

Re: Video of Darkside tire failure
why would this ass clown post a video with absolutely no pertinent information (Twin, pertinent means valueable, relative, important Just trying to help a brother out) ... He definately falls under troll heading. At least talk to the rider get his take on it instead of. See the tire this bike shop took off. Now I am wondering if this is not an advertising scheme for the dealership there. As much time was spent showing their logo as the tire.
JMHO, and I don't give a shit if ..........
See you out there

Re: Video of Darkside tire failure
that video dont scare me lol.hell,on my first 750 back in the 80's,i had to run 30 or so miles on a straight flat mt at 40-55 mph.of course i had to slow way down in the curves, but it can be done lol.if i recall, isnt there a dunflop 404 mt that is failing on bikes and causing riders to go down ?at least thats what i heard.i'm not even the slightest bit worried about my ct.even if it does go flat on me,i allready have experience runnin on a flat yall ride safe now ya hear

Re: Video of Darkside tire failure
On the making of the video, I'm not sure how much information was available to the poster. As I take it, he was viewing a tire that the shop had previously removed from a Wing.
They probably keep it around as the official "So ya wanna run a CT, eh???" sales 'tool',,, used when anybody asks about runnin a CT. Probably convinces a lot of people to buy a MT instead,,,
I was hoping somebody here might have some firsthand knowlwedge of the tire, as in previous owner, what really happened, etc.
I do appreciate the diagnosis of 'looks like a runflat that ran flat',,, Makes sense to me. I have the Hydroedge on my VTX1800, and we don't have a 'run flat' DS option,,,so I never studied up on what it was, or how it 'works',,,
With the stiffer sidewalls of the run flat, I wonder if the Wing rider was fully aware that he was (potentially) riding on a flat?

Re: Video of Darkside tire failure
You can see the tire is extremely worn down on the edges, so I'd imagine it was just a case of trying to ride on the tire too long. The guy probably looked at the tread depth in the middle and figured he could get a few more miles out of it, not realizing the cords were starting to show at the edges.
From what I've read, m/c tires are more prone to failure than car tires, in any application. I personally haven't experienced any m/c tire failures (knock on wood) but I've only got around 30k miles of experience. I do have a good deal of experience at a car tire shop though, and it's extremely rare to see a failure resulting from manufacturer defect. Nine times out of ten, underinflation is the culprit.

You dont have to be a rocket scientist to figgure it out. The best thing is the dude did not go down. Regardless I feel safer on the CT by far.

I have tons more confidence in a CT over a MT. Much more grip. I can lock the rear brake on my Road Star that has an Avon Venom and I don't know it until the rear starts coming around. I tried to lock the rear on my Venture with a Kumho on it and it's squealing like a pig and grabbing HARD!

The first time I jammed the breaks I smashed the boys. Since then I take it a little easier and am reassured that when I need em they will be there.
