I have have spoken to a number of Tire Dealers and MC Customization shops here in South Jersey about getting a CT mounted on the rear of my Vulcan 900 without too much success. Can anybody out there make any recommendations?

do it yourself
go get a motorcycle jack,
then go to youtube and search for motorcycle tire change
and watch the videos , it's not hard to change a tire
for rim protectors use an empty water bottle remove the cap and stomp flat
three 4x4 wood blocks to keep your disk and splines from touching the ground,
three tire spoons harbor fright .
air compressure.

Don't get me wrong, I come from a salvage yard background and so grew up in South-West Philadelphia and South Jersey junkyards. Additionally, I have changed any number of car tires and unmounted and remounted both by hand and by machine...but, at this point I am not interested in buying a tire mounting machine and air compressor to mount 1 or 2 tires.
Anybody else out there?

look at these videos , not a tire machine but by hand.
cheap and easy way to do it.
or you could remove the the wheel from the bike and take it to a car tire shop and ask them to change it for you.

thats what i did, took the wheel off the bike and took it to a car tire shop.just make sure you grease the hell out of the rim so the bead will pop easier when you do find someone to do it.if the peeps at a car tire shop look down to earth good folk, they should do it.good luck. Smile

Trying to go dark in South Jersey Empty Still trying to go dark in South Jersey

Post  pjd1952 Fri Aug 21, 2009 5:21 pm

Well, the main auto tire shop I have always done business with looked at me sideways and pretty much let me know in no uncertain terms that they would not be interested in doing the mount. I then called an MC Customization shop, which I thought for sure would have no problem and had probably already done CT mounts, but again the proprietor told me I was crazy.
Now, I'm sure I can get the MC tire off my rear wheel without too much difficulty but I'm not sure about the remount of the car tire. It's really not a matter of money it's a matter of letting someone who does this kind of stuff regularly do it right rather than involve myself in something that might have a questionable outcome.
So, I'm still looking...I have some time. Can anybody else out there in South Jersey respond? How about somebody in Philadelphia?

If no one in South Jersey answeres up you could come up to Upstate New York,(Kingston) A guy that has a shop mounted mine for me with no problem. Let me know if you need an address or phone number.

Thanks Klink700, I will keep that in mind. I hope it doesn't come to that but I am pretty well convinced that I am going to the Darkside when it comes time to replace my rear tire. If I can't find someone local, and I determine that I can't do it myself, I will consider your offer as an alternative.
Hello, South Jersey and Philadelphia...I can't believe there's no one out there that can direct me to a source to go Dark.

Any auto tire shop that does custom and mag wheels can do it easily, especially so, if you buy the tire from them.
My local guy includes free mount and balance with all tire purhases, so he was happy to mount mine when I brought the wheel in. No vehicle or tire balancing to deal with. If they are worried about liability, tell them, cash and carry, no slip required, and/or it's for a drag bike or trike, your choice, good luck.

Thanks, horseman8m, but I think I should clarify...I don't need anyone to remove my wheel...I'm looking for someone who would actually have the correct tools and be willing to do the mounting of the tire on the wheel...I will do the wheel removal and re-install. Sorry if you misunderstood my postings.

just about any small car tire shop with MAG wheel machine . A mag wheel machine grips the wheel by the rim on the bottom lip in three places. so it should do your motorcycle wheel too.
Good luck, sorry for the misunderstanding .
