New member with a few questions (GYTT 215 on a 1300R)
Hi all, I've been convinced by the posts on the other boards to go darkside. I'd like to go with the widest tire I can on my 1300R and have been told that a 205 will fit, and a 215 will with modification. I was wondering what I'd need to do to fit the 215.
I was also wondering if THIS TIRE is the GYTT you guys are ordering.
Finally, from my reading I've come to the conclusion that a 2?5/70/R15 is the tire I would need for my rim, and that it will keep my bike at the same height as the MT. Is that correct?
TIA for the help.

Re: New member with a few questions (GYTT 215 on a 1300R)
Welcome to the site. Horse did the 215 and will be along shortly with the link....On the tires I have measured, I found the 65 series to be a little shorter and the 70 series to be a little taller than the stock dunflop. The 70 series has a little narrower bead with and the bead will seat easier. There are a lot of good choices out there.

before you do the mod measure the tire you have in hand and on the rim, you might not have to do much to get it to work ,
even though both are 215 tires they might be different in size so measure your space and your tire.

I made extra room when i did mine so i could have a wider tire later, after i do the foots mod.
good luck and ask if you have questions .

jon,
with the foots mod, is 65 the max ratio that one should go with in a 215 tire? i mean, with 70, there probably isnt anymore room as you showed in the pictures.
2ndly, can you ride 2 up with a 215 and not have the tire rub (you showed a 1/4" clearance only in one spot) when lets say you hit a bump or the bike bounces with the two of you?
thanks,
omar

Re: New member with a few questions (GYTT 215 on a 1300R)
the first number is the width 215 but the second is a percentage of the first number to make the height 65% of 215 , so if you go to 70% then it is getting to the point that it will rub something riding 2up , and of course the last number is rim size.
the best way to check is go to tirerack.com and look at the tire you want to buy , click on the specs. and see if the height is under 26.5
I ride 2up , no big deal , no rubs rides smooth . I have over 5000 miles on this tire and mod.
I hope i answered your question.
here is the link for gytt 215 65r15 ,, you have 26" ,, that's great
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=Goodyear&model=Assurance+TripleTred&partnum=165HR5ATT&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&place=1
here is the link after you do the foots mod a gytt 215 65r16 as you can see it is up to 27" so that is getting to big
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=Goodyear&model=Assurance+TripleTred&partnum=165TR6ATT&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&place=3
and here is the gytt 215-60r16 post foot mod tire ,, now you see the tire is 26.1 """ jackpot """" we have a winner
