Last year I had the steering bearings replaced and asked the dealer to tighten the steering to a ten pound pull. I didn't think that they tightened it down to what I requested, but it felt OK so I just kept riding it.

This winter I went Darkside and switched out the spoked rims to a "C" rims. The steering felt a lot looser with the thinner tire and I experienced the high speed wobble for the first time since I've owned it.

So this morning I decided to tighten it down, rather that enjoy the nice weather and go for a ride. It really didn't take very long to take it apart and make the adjustment. I didn't check the pull weight, I just went by feel.

I went for a test ride and what a world of difference! The steering felt smoother and I felt more in control. I didn't take it over 70 MPH but I don't think it's going to be a problem when I hit the higher speeds.

did you say you have the taper bearings in there , like the 1800's have .
That is what i am going to do with mine , replace the ball bearings with the taper bearings.
people I have talked to say they can sure feel the deference.
thanks for the write-up , things like this help everyone.

Did the allballs changeout last month and OMG affraid , I can't believe I was riding on those puny bearings that honda put in. Yes, the ride is 100% better and my only regret is that we didn't do it sooner.
