V Star 1300
Looking for information on going DARKSIDE with a 1300 V Star. I have my tire ordered for my 1800F VTX, have also talked two co-workers into going Darkside on their 1300 VTX and they love it. Now another co-worker is looking at going Darkside with his 1300 V Star. Any information would be greatly appreciated so I can pass it on to him.

Re: V Star 1300
Here is a good site to see what other DSers are putting on their rides.

Looks like all the V-star 1300's are using Dunlop Sport 5000, 195/60-16.

The Dunlop Sport5000 tire is an excellent tire...
It is very happy at 27lbs. of air and should give you 15-20k of tire life.

V-Star 1300
I put the Dunlop Sport 5000 195/60/16 on my bike. Still not completely used to it yet. It rides very smooth though. I will update after a couple thousand miles.

Darkside Is The Way To Go
After two thousand miles on the car tire, I can honestly say I like it. The bike rides just as good if not better. It really feels alot better in the rain.

Great tire for the V-Star 1300
Just mounted a General Altimax 205/60 16 w/V rating on my 2009 Vstar T and love the tire. I ran it at 36 lbs for the first 300 miles and then down to 34 lbs. At first, before break-in ( for the tire and me ) I noticed that the back of the scoot kinda shifted away from the bike in turns. The more I rode, the less it did or the less I noticed. The up side for me on going to the DarkSide, in order.... 1. Smoother Ride 2. Quieter ride 3 4. . Better breaking 5. Good handling on twisties ****
6. Looks really Kewl 7. Better handling on gravel 8. Expected better mileage on the tire*****
DOWN SIDE: ????? Wait and see..
NOTE: I don't recommend anyone do what I have done, especially if you are not an experienced rider. I ride 20 to 25 K a year and live in the Texas Hill Country with lots of twisties. If you have any questions, let me know..
BTW: Checked with my Dealer and he confirmed : No warranty issues, Same with Geico for insurance
****** 5. Would not recommend for hard charging on twisties, but OK for normal cruising . Would not do THE DRAGON .
8. WILL POST ON MILEAGE AFTER I WEAR THE TIRE OUT..

more information
Just finished putting over 1k on the new tires, ( general 205/60-16 V ). In my last post, I stated that I would not ride the Dragon on the CT..... WELL, I wish to revise my statement in that regard.... Now that the tire is fully broke in, and I am comfortable with the tire, I would ride anywhere on this tire... NO DOWN SIDE FOUND..... THAT IS ALL...

Re: V Star 1300
Hi all! I'm new here on this forum. Been on the "other darkside froum" for quite some while. I just replaced my Dunlop SP 5000 after 16,000 miles. LOVED IT!! I decided to go to a 205/60/16 to try and correct the speedometer error. It read 7 miles slower that my GPS stated. I tried to go with a General Altimax HP but could not get one here in the Sacramento area. (I could have ordered it on line but>>>>>>>) I decided on the Michlien Primacy MXv4 . (the same tire my wife has on here Honda Accord). I just installed the tire last Sunday and haven't had to much of a chance to ride since. It's rained a lot here since then. I have noticed that up sizing to the 205/60/16 from the 195/60/16 has corrected the speedo error by 4 miles per hour. I started out @ 34 psi for break in and will go up or down from there. I ride a 07 v star 1300, 49,895 miles on Lucille now. Going to the Darkside was one of the best things that I have done, other than installing Corbin seats and backrests. Ken

I just saw your post. How much of the tire tread was left? I have 11,000 on my 950's stock tire, and have another 4,000 left. I hope I get at least double that with a CT. I get 40,000 out of a CT on my Hyudai Elantra. With less weight on the tire (the bike weighs 635 lbs and I weigh 200, total weight 835) 418 lbs I should be able to get some good mileage out of it.
