Yesterday I tried to mount a BFG 195/65/15 on my VT1100 (Honda Shadow Spirit) and was not successful. The inside tire dimensions of the BFG is 6", while the Metzeler I took off is 3 3/4' . The rim width was just to narrow for the BFG. Luckily I had another spare M/C rear tire that I was able to use. Wished I had done some more checking here on this site for tire options. When I get a chance I am going to try a 195/60/15 Barum next.

Oh by the way Steve-O recommended this site.

He said you'd be by........ Glad to hear you had an extra tire on hand. The easiest tires to mount are usually an inch or less wider than the rim they are mounting on. Hope you enjoy your tire.

Good to have you here LoneStar!

  • You'll need some high pressure to get the tire to bead up.
Clean the rim really good before trying to mount the tire.
Use Vegetable oil as a lubricant.

Call me if you need some tips.

It does take some finesse to mount a car tire and a lot of patients! Good luck, I think the darkside is worth the effort to get one mounted. Here's my recommendation for success, try to use a tire others have have successfully mounted on theirs! I went thru 3 brands before I got one mounted.... Wink Of course I was the first one!
