fitting a 205/60 to my Vulcan
Does anybody have a picture of just how close the tyre is to the drive tube? the 205 seems to be the best replacement size, i am wary of going 195/55 because the tyre is 33mm smaller than the 205/60. Also does it create any dramas riding 2 up?

Re: fitting a 205/60 to my Vulcan
after weeks of stuffing around, i fonally got the CT on my bike.... got a new metz tyre on the front, and a Yokohama A.RideR1 205/55/R16 on the back.....
I like it!! feels a little weird at low speed...... it feels as though it's cornering a little more positively now..... but if there is a bump on the bend it seems to make the @$$ wag a little bit, but i can get used to that.
Took a few pics of it.
Clearance on the right hand side.....
clearance on the left side...... it looks a lot closer than it actually is...... i could fit 3 credit cards down the gap there.....
Pretty happy so far..... and that's running on 45psi. I don't think it needs to go any lower than that.

RE FITTING 205-60-16 TO KAW.
If you drop tire pressure to 30 psi the squirrely feeling on road surfaces will leave,it will also stabilise in the curves.I have 3000 miles on mine now and thru trial and errow have settled on this pressure. If I go lower it will develop a high speed wobble at 85 mph.At 30 psi 120 mph and still no wobble.Go to general disscussion (tahlemena ride )there is a picture of my nomad on that thread. RIDE SAFE Larry S.

i'll wear the tyre in for a few days and try backing it off to 40psi and see how it feels. i will take 5 pounds out of it gradually and see how it handles. Rode most of the day today in heavy traffic and on the highway. At the current level it felt pretty good, although i will take what you said into consideration and try it at a lower pressure. So far, i like it I have seen posts by guys on another forum who went DS and then changed back again because they said the bike felt more unstable at all pressures........ strikes me as odd. Mine feels MORE stable. Just a bit different at low speed and tight corners.

re fitting 205 60 16 to my vulcan
That is about what I did in reguards to pressure .One thing I haven't figgured out my friends 1300 is lighter than my nomad and his tire pressure works better at 35 psi.About the only negative I still notice is stopping on the edge of the road if it is rough it seems to throw me side to side fairly hard. Other than that I beleive it will continue to get better as you get accustomed to the feel.Let us know how it does for you.I have no intentions of going back myself. RIDE SAFE Larry S.

Re: fitting a 205/60 to my Vulcan
Mine felt more stable at 40 psi than 30. Your Mileage May Vary. I think it's a function of the tire and the bike. You will definitely know that you have a different tire on the back.

Re: fitting a 205/60 to my Vulcan
I rode on a wet road yesterday afternoon... and i did notice the increase in spray coming from the back........ at 60kph it was throwing almost a rooster tail behind the bike.... should keep the cages off my ass. But what everybody has been saying is correct, the more i ride it, the more i am deciding i will not go back to a BT

Re: fitting a 205/60 to my Vulcan
after doing about 6,000 kilometres on the tyre, i can report it's going great!! i ride it at 34psi now and it feels good, doesn't tramline as badly, and handles the twisties well. Grips really well in the wet too! took it for a 1,000K (600 mile) ride a couple of weekends ago, and rode the twisties between Armidale and Grafton..... handled them surprisingly well.
I have managed to convert a couple of others to the dark side as well.

Re: fitting a 205/60 to my Vulcan
Hi Vulcaniser,
I fitted a Dunlop Le Mans 195/65/15 to my 1995 Honda Shadow, and are having a similar experience as you, the tyre seems to follow the groove in the road but nothing I cant get used to, I started with a pressure of 40psi but I am now running at 35psi, much more comfortable ride and I have had no problems with the twisties, also I have no balancing weights on my wheel at all and she runs great.
Jonno.

Hi All
I am soon to become a darksider I am fitting a 205x60x16 Good year to my 2006 Nad,I have been researching this for some time and with the help of this forum have decided to commit.
Contacted my insurance people and explained my intentions and they have given the OK so here we go.
I am riding my Nomad from Melbourne to Perth next year a trip of 8,000K + by the time I get home so the CT should have proven it's self by then.
Oh for the ozzie member's here I am also a Ulysses member.

Re: fitting a 205/60 to my Vulcan
Tried the tyre at 35psi and found it sloppy I am a fairly heavy bloke 130kilo so I have bumped it up to 40psi and so far found it good at higher speed but have noticed some instability in low speed corners around town I suppose it is a matter of getting used to it I find when entering a corner at lower speeds and throttle on the bike feels like it is stepping out.
Other than this aspect I love it and the Goodyear seems to be a good choice,I have not added any weights to the rim as yet and it does not have any undue vibrations to speek of the ride it's self is a lot smoother than it used to be.

Re: fitting a 205/60 to my Vulcan
Photo above was taken part way through a 1500K test ride and if your an ozzie you will know the country I rode through
I left Melbourne for Cann River then up to Coma and back home Via Jyndabine Tallangatta and Wodonga great test on all sorts of diferant road's.Top speed on the flat was 170K no problems I have left the preasure at 40psi and all feels good
the cornering was for me better than the M/C in all ways.

Re: fitting a 205/60 to my Vulcan
Hey Finky, Goose here, I see you are member over on the KawaNOW Forum, me too & congrats on the new CT hope you love it, I know I love mine! What is your name over on the KawaNOW? Mine is the same as here. Oh and on the PSI some have found that lowering the PSI doesn't take away from the handling, mine was improved when I got down around 32PSI, haven't went much past that, also set my rebound on the shocks to the 3rd setting, (helped in the curves). Let me know what you think? Goosefinky wrote:Photo above was taken part way through a 1500K test ride and if your an ozzie you will know the country I rode through

Re: fitting a 205/60 to my Vulcan
Hi Goose
Thanks for the info I will drop the preasure and give it a go I use the same name on Kawanow I am the Australian Moderator.
At the moment though the 40psi seems to feel good to me the bike is stable at speed and corner's good.I am waiting for some rain to give it a go in the wet.
