Tomorrow's the day, one ?
Twin, I'm finally ready to go darksideing, my tires are shot. I bought some C rims for my S from Duc. I'm taking the rim to work tomorrow to mount the tire on it.
I've narrowed my choice down to two tires, either a Toyo Proxy's 4 or the new Potenza, something called "grid". I'm going with a 205/55-16, think that'd be the best choice as I have a 1300 final drive.
Ok one ?, I've searched but haven't found a clear answer. With that tire size will I need to do any grinding/cutting on the inner brace. I've got progressive standard 11.5 shocks, I weigh right at 2 bills and the wife weighs around 120.
Thanks for the help and I can't wait to give this a shot.

Re: Tomorrow's the day, one ?
tire height is not the issue... you can go up to a 65 w/ no problem.... you have to check the width in the inner fender brace. Some will rub, some will not....

Re: Tomorrow's the day, one ?
The easiest way to be sure is pull your shocks so you can run the tire up inside fender to check side clearance , you need very little. If you're going with a 55, I believe the Toyo Proxes T1R is a better choice for handling. It has more diagonal and much less straight rib tread, to minimize tracking and pulling with road crown, and has just slightly less width than Proxes 4 or Grid, for a little more side clearance. After much research, that was my choice till I found out 55 was the tallest available. Good Luck with your pick.

Marang,
Look at the Toyo T1R instead of the Proxes!!!! My twin has run both of them and he likes the T1R considerably better! Now as far as having to trim some brackets...it depends on the tire. We have found some car tires are wider than other and between manufactures there is no cut and dry common measurement! A 205mm is NOT a 205mm between brands!
Dude....you want regret going darkside! I am in love with mine! Does everything I want it to do only 10 times better than the motorcycle tire! And of course wet weather riding will not scare you any more with the slipping rear tire. I have not had my rear tire step out on me for 3 1/2 years now of daily riding in the rain under normal operation and riding for the condition! Louisiana rains all the time here!

ps.....Thanks for coming by and good to hear from you!

Re: Tomorrow's the day, one ?
Just to clarify, the T1R is also part of the Proxes series, check it out here: http://www.toyo.com/docs/tires/tires.asp?category=sport

Yes it is...but it will handle better!!!!! That's the consensus of just about everyone, plus you can get the T1R in a 65 series instead of just a 55 series of the Proxes 4!

Re: Tomorrow's the day, one ?
I agree it will handle better, as I posted above, I was just pointing out that Proxes is a series, or family of 7 different tires, T1R, 4, R1R, TPT, etc., check the Toyo link, that's why I posted it. If you go into the specs you'll see the T1R is not available in anything taller than 55, only the TPT is. Have a good one!twin1300 wrote:Dan wrote:Just to clarify, the T1R is also part of the Proxes series, check it out here: http://www.toyo.com/docs/tires/tires.asp?category=sport

Re: Tomorrow's the day, one ?
Sorry I never did report back on the tire I got. I ended up getting a Riken Raptor. I'm very happy with this tire, at first I wasn't too sure about it but I'm sure it was all in my head. It really is second nature now. I think I have around 8-10K on it now, here's few pics.
The old Avon with 6K on it was done I'd say
