I Finally Did It ! Empty I Finally Did It !

Well, I'm officially a Darksider I guess. A few days back I asked about any other brands than Douglas that you could recommend. I got suggestions, but also several people chimed in that they were happy with their Douglas. I researched quite a bit, and many manufacturers said their 70 series tires would fit on 5" wide rims (I think my C rim is 4"), but all the other brands that I could look at and measure seemed too big. I ended up buying a Douglas 205/70-15 instead of the 65 profile I asked about before. I pulled my rear wheel off, I still can't believe I did that, and took it to a motorcycle tire shop. The shop did not seem to mind at all mounting it. It is a big shop, and they basically keep 2 or 3 people constantly busy installing tires on bikes even during the day on a weekday. The fellow said "quite a few people mount car tires, but I gotta warn you it won't corner the same." I had to wonder, "Why would a group of fellow riders who have tried car tires tell anything other than the truth? What's to gain?" Since I had brought just my wheel and new tire, it went fast. I was reading a magazine in their waiting room then got up and looked through to the shop area. The tire was already mounted, and they were spin balancing it. I took it back home, after buying some special moly hypoid? for the splines. It went back together easy. I did turn the muffler bolt around. I can't tell that it is hard to turn. It seems fine to me. I really wanted it for greater traction in braking and for when I get stuck in the rain. I just rode about 50 miles. It seems like now that the counter steering feels right, and makes sense to me finally. It seems slightly smoother, but may be due to better balancing than the old tire. For those wondering whether to put that car tire on, my first impression is go for it. If I change my opinion, I will post it. Thanks for all the help.

Well, I don't know how to post pics. I even took one just for this site.

Welcome to the darkside. Once you get the mold release burned off you can put it through its paces. The 70 series will give you a little more accuracy on the spedo, and reduce you top end rpm's....
Let us know what you think when you get some miles on it...

Very nice....whitebass.

Give it about 300 miles and you will love it. No better traction can be had other than the darkside.
