T model front tire Empty T model front tire

Post  Dan Fri May 30, 2008 12:58 pm

I'm looking for options on a tall front tire for a VTX1800C. I notice the 98-01 VT1100T ACE shows a 130\80R18 up front, and Dunlop's Fitment Chart shows no other model using that size. I'm looking for comments on this tire, I haven't been able to find another tire co. that has this size, only Dunlop D206. They look better than the stock C, D251, and pricewise, it should be better. Anyone have experience with it? Also, I'm hoping to find a closeout sale on it, any ideas for best price?

Thanks Jerry, good info. I just found out Pirelli has a tire coming out in the fall, called, "Night Dragon". Made for front use on heavy cruisers, in a 140/70-18, and 3 other front sizes, rears also. Great looking tires.

Bridgestone S11 Spitfire. I will NOT run anything else on the front in a 19" tire. It's made for the sport cruiser crowd and it is the bomb and far as grip, handling, and longevity! You can find them on the net for around $65 to $85.

I ride an '98 T and the Dunlop(D206) is expensive. I'm going to replace my front tire with a rear tire, 130/80 or 130/90-18 to have a higher load rating and hopefully more miles out of it. I have several riding buddy's that have done this and they have not had any problems so far. Their are several tires that have the same tread pattern on the front and rear tires, so that is what I'm going to limit my search to.

OK, here's the problem. Dunlop is the only one making the 130/80-18 radial. If you want to go with another brand, you're looking at a 130/70 or 120/80. The Tourer's speedo is already 5% optomistic to begin with. If you put a smaller front tire on, it only makes the error worse. Personally, I haven't had a single complaint with the D206F on my Tourer. As for price, I find 'em cheap on eBay fairly often. Just keep checking.
