THP Harrassing Motorcyclist

TAIL OF THE DRAGON EXCLUSIVE – The State of Tennessee is spending more than $200,000 of Federal Funds to add overtime patrols at the Dragon this summer. The Tennessee Highway Patrol received a $75,183.75 grant and the Blount County Sheriff Office is receiving $125,022.48. These grants began October 1, 2007 and will end on September 30, 2008.
The Governor has openly admitted to detesting motorcycles and therefore it looks like Tennessee has declared war on motorcyclists. On the Dragon (Hwy 129) last year, the THP would pull you over and ask to see proof that your sunglasses were "shatter-proof" and if you didn't have said proof, they were stomping the glasses as unsafe and writing tickets for it. If the THP were stopped in the middle of the road talking to one another or someone else, you had to wait until the moved or motioned you by. If you rode by, no matter how slowly, they would write a ticket for failing to yield to law enforcement, crossing the center line, or passing on the right. If you crossed or rode upon the center line they would write tickets, etc, etc, etc... Nothing but pure harassment until finally there were almost no motorcycles on the Dragon, at least compared to what there had been. It's supposed to be even worse this year.
