new ct on 600vlx
I just got my tire on my bike and I just wanted to see what someone who might know more than I thinks about what I did.
I have a shadow 600 vlx with a 165/80/15 ct on the back. here is one of the issuse, tubeless tire on spoked rim w/ a tube. is it ok heard it wasn't but then I heard a ct is not for a bike.
How it was mounted. corn oil on rim and tire and 100 psi and it wouldn't seat. It kept getting stuck in one spot but not always the same spot finally after many atempts one side set no pop. after another deflation and forcing the stuck spot to a different spot it finally did go on...SCARY!!!!!. Thought it was coming off the rim still no pop. tire looks even all around. If you are going to the darkside beprepaired to do some daring things to do it. personaly I mounted it myself only because if somone is going to get insured or worse because I want a ct on my bike it's gonna be me.
I have not riden much yet just a few miles. at 35psi the bike wanted to woble if you let go of the handle bars. brought it down to 32 and it handles great. does feel a little different at very low speed in hard turn mostly when it comes out of a turn. I will be commuting 90 miles a day so I should be back with more about handleing soon.
my dad has a valkyrie w/ a ct. and his only concern was how light my bike is. any coments on that?
one other thing when under power the bike has a vibration but as soon as i hit the clutch it goes away. any idea what that is.
seeya on the road. hope I can help somone and hope somone helps me thanks

Jonny, welcome to the site. Dont know of another VLX running the darkside. I'm not sure about the tire but I am sure someone with more knowledge (almost everyone) will be along shortly to help you out.
Need to see a picture of your bike.

Kick ass. Hope you enjoy it. Ride safe and keep us posted.

Re: new ct on 600vlx
The wobble under power sounds like a drive line issue. Maybe something not right in the ........ hell is that a shaft, chain or belt? Anyway it sounds like maybe something is not exactly right after having it apart to install the tire. If it is shaft drive make sure you reapplied the moly60 paste. Check it out real good before you jump on and get 45 miles from home and have issues.

Smokey, the 600 is chain...but you might be right too...did everything get aligned back correctly?

Toasted, Thanks
I learned something today. Now I can go to bed knowing I am a smarter fella than I was when I woke up yesterday at noon.
Have a great day all

Re: new ct on 600vlx
JJ,
I got a couple of things. Did you install some balancing beads in the tire? How is your shock bushings? Sometimes the steering head bearings are not tight enough and will allow a slight wobble in the handlebars!
Get back to me on these questions and let's get this fixed?
.............bobby
ps...the darkside should NEVER cause your bike to wobble or shake the front end!

Re: new ct on 600vlx
the wobble was a low speed and it stopped after I lowered the psi. it probably has always done it but it was amplified by bouncing from edge to edge of the ct. I assume lowering the psi made the tire flex more.
the other problem was when the bike is under power it vibrates like driving over rumble strips.
but when the clutch is in (no power) it goes away.
chian drive, no pellets, lead strip on rim from profesional balance.

Re: new ct on 600vlx
How many miles are on your sprokets (front and rear) and chain? Also, is your chain tension correct? Too tight a chain is as bad or worse than too loose a chain. The tire would have practically nothing to do with a vibration that is felt only under power so I'd start looking at the driveline components.

Hey now!
Check the tire at same speed on known smooth surface. Does it wobble?
What I found was that grooved pavement will cause a "shimmy" feeling in the back end. this is just the large contact patch picking up road deformations. And it only happens at certain speeds with me. Kind of like harmonics. At 30 mph I feel nothing. At 10 I feel like I"m riding on a flat tire.
Lowering the pressure may fix it. Just make sure it does not reduce your treadwear or cornering ability. You want a little stiffness for twisties. But if dropping the psi from 42 to 38 fixes it, you should be okay (maybe I'll do that too!)
Dark side on a 600? That's a tube to a tubeless too isn't it...Whoda thunk it. Keep us posted.

accual psi was 35 and it was dropped to 32. and it is a spoke rim with a tube.
one of my "??"s was has anyone had problems running a tube in a ct.
also checked the head bearings and they are tight. haven't done anything else yet.
sprockets have 12k on them chain has 3k.
heres a pic. will get one of the back side a soon as i find my camera...doing some remodeling.
