2012 Harley-Davidson Street Glide FLHX
New to this site, and new to riding the dark side on a 2012 Harley-Davidson Street Glide.
In the past all CT riding was on Honda Goldwings. Today we mounted a Dunlop SP Sport5000 195/60/16 and Dyna beads for balancing. This is the first time running this tire series. The other option I had readily available is the Continental 195/60/16 offering higher highway speeds, including double the mileage expectancy.
What pushed a decision into commitment is at the 2012 Fayetteville Rally, sitting outside the Harley Dealer waiting on a clutch adjustment, the wreckers rolled in all day hauling MCs suffering rear flat tiers. At one point wreckers are backed up three deep waiting to drop off their load. Inquiring one rider what is the going price for a tire replacement; the comment is $400.00 plus mount, plus mount? Ok understanding that dealerships must make money to stay in business is one thing; but, WOW 400.00 + mount?
Today's test ride; on the way to work in the Kansas City. This area has no shortage of bad roads, roads under construction, and generally hazardous highways for any motorcyclist. The results are no difference than a MC tire except, there is no spine jarring, rear-end slap from a few china holes that a MC tire falls right in and the CT just glides over.
Smooth ride, handles very well, $224.00 includes mount and balance. Just glad to be on the darkside again. Very Happy.

Tommy, I've been on the road the last weeks, but welcome and I hope you enjoy the ride.
Incredible the price this dealer asked for replacing the tire, but we all know dealers are stealers.
Have a good (riding)weekend.
Robert.

Is your FLHX an ABS model or not? I am trying to find a ABS equipped Glide owner that can verify that their ABS is working okay after dark siding...

I would expect the taller profile to put more leverage against the brake pressure, but then again, the softer rubber would increase grip. Probably be a wash.
