CT on GL1500
I have been reading up on this for awhile on the site here,I ride a 1500 Wing with a side car and been thinking about going Darkside as I can't lean. I've read where you're running CTs on 1500s. Was talking to a fella about it, he runs a sidecar also.He says it can't be done on a 1500 without sending the wheel away to get rebuilt at a cost of $600, he says they won't stay sealed.. Looking at the Dunlop Wintersport Runflat 175/60/16 ifr it can be done...thanx for your input

Re: CT on GL1500
If your stock tire is 160/80-16 then I would try the 175/80-16 tire. You can run a tube in a tubeless tire but you can't run a tube type tire without a tube. So if you don't want to seal your spokes then run a motorcycle tube for a 180/16 motorcycle tire and go out and have fun.

Re: CT on GL1500
Your friend's opinion differs from the experiences on this site. Many here have used the Wintersport or the Austone without an issue regarding the wheel itself. The GL1200 wheel on the other hand is just off enough to not match up to a PC tire so most GL1200 Darksiders have either had their bead diameter remachined or switched to GL1500 wheel and final drive. Could be where his confusion comes from.
Keep reading. The Dunlop is slightly smaller and the Austone is slightly bigger than the usual GL1500 tire so keep that in consideration regarding your sidecar.

Re: CT on GL1500
I run a Austone 175-75/16 on my 1500GL Last year travel 9400miles on a trip to Alaska without any problems whatsoever. Best move I ever made from MT to CT. Short trip this year only 5200 miles and expect the same performance.
Take care,

I am running a Federal Formoza 175/60/16 on mine. I don't think they are making those any more or they seem to be hard to find. I have a tow pac installed also and the wife and I Love the CT on the wing. Not sure what I will put on it when I wear it out.....
