Getting a 195/55R-16 General G-MAX AS-03 mounted early next week - anyone have experience / recommendations on tire pressure? Front is a new Metzler 880 on an '08 ABS Wing.

Though I am not a novice to riding, this is my first run at a touring bike and my first venture into the dark side - looking forward to it; should be interesting.

Is it a run flat tire?

Typically the run flats run about 34 psi, non run flats run much higher. I am running 42 in my non run flat.

Congrats and welcome to the site and the darkside.

See you out there

Thanks Smokey - No, it's a non-runflat; I was torn between the Kumho and this General and the tread pattern in the center on the General and overall rating seemed to be closer to what I wanted. I guess only time will tell if I made a good choice.

I find the non run flat to be a tad wallowy (technical term). Going to a run flat soon .

Guess I'll see; I would have thought the higher pressure would have offset that to some degree. If not, I will be picking up a Kumho much earlier than anticipated.

The higher pressure does offest it somewhat, just not enough. I like my tire to squat and set into the twistie but can really live without the wallowy feel when I am at interstate+ speeds. These are heavy machines and the softer sidewall of the nonrunflats I have tried ( 2 so far) have been wallowy. Don't get me wrong. I still ride the piss out of it dragging the pegs hard through the curves, corners and parking lots. I just think a non runflat will give a better overall ride. That is basing what I have heard from other wingers on the run flats.

Enjoy

See you out there

Just headed dark.................. Empty The Acid Test

Well - wound up swapping to a Kumho run flat 195/55r16 at the last minute (@32psi) because of concerns over the General's relatively weak G-Max sidewall. Though I have only done 40 miles since, I can confirm that the ride is indeed improved, as is braking; cornering does not seem to be affected, though I am hesitant to test this out until I get some decent scuffing on the tires. Barring sliding into oblivion in this next stage of validation, I am now a Dark Side advocate.......

My Dunlop runflat shows to run fifty one p.s.i. but its for a 1500 not an 1800. Maybe thats the difference.
