99 Honda Shadow ACE 205/70/15 upgrade!
I upgraded! I went from a 165/80/15 Volkswagen tire to a 205/70/15. I have looked and looked at various darkside forums but to no avail, couldn't find anyone that mounted a 205/70/15 on a Honda Shadow "ACE" 750. Sure, there were many that did it to their Honda Spirits, and even honda shadows with the "short" fenders. Some even called them Ace's but they weren't truly Ace's. ACE stands for American Classic Edition...Bigger front tire(120/80/17) and bigger retro fenders. I wasn't sure it would fit. I had a somewhat junkie 205/70/15 measured to be sure it could fit in the full fender well. I got the thumbs up from my installer and then bought a new Douglas tire from Walmart for $58. We put some light grease and at about 85-90 psi, it popped into place. The tire fit perfectly and the 205 is the maximum you can go without having to do any modifications. My rpms dropped when I went from a 42 tooth rear sprocket to a 38 t sprocket using my original 170/80/15 bike tire. I raised the rpms again when I switched to the 165/80/15. Now, with the same 38t sprocket, and the taller 205, my rpms have dropped more than ever. I have had my bike tweaked with performance upgrades but now, with the taller tire, I can do 75(maybe more but I don't have a tach yet) in 4th gear befire hitting 5th! It is freakishly fast as far as top end goes. And its stable yet comfortable like your bugger cruisers. Corbin seat helps..LOL! I hope this helps everyone. I will post pics tomorrow.

Congrats. You should be happy with the Douglas 205. I got 23,000 good miles out of mine.

I rode a 750 Spirit with the 38 tooth sprocket but never a darkside on it. My twin brother had the 750 Ace. Great bikes, just not real great for two up riding so I got the 1300 VTXC. But you are exactly right about the rpms in the stock sprocket ratio being too high. It should really cruise now on the highway and interstate.
Wow....205 on a 750! Great job! Thanks for the update.
