Mileage and Sand Empty Mileage and Sand

Post  Professor Sat Jun 08, 2013 5:52 pm

Hello All,
I have been considering going to the Darkside for over a year. But have 2 questions:

1. How do CTs handle in the sand? I live on a sand road, and it's not an uncommon occurrence for my '08 Connie to suddenly lay down without notice.

2. I am running Battle Axes front and rear. Most of my riding is straight line riding, not many twisties in FLA. and I get 10K from the front and 20K from the rear. From what I have read so far, here, there is no mileage benefit for putting a CT on my Connie. Are any of you getting 40K per tire?

you will be limited by the front tire, yes, your rear tire traction and floatation will be vastly improved

You're limited only by courage: I found out way back on the dirtbikes that the faster you ride on sand, the harder it is (the sand) and the less you will
sink into it. Fast enough and it's like cement! The exception to this rule is thin sand over pavement, which is slippery the faster you go.

The width of the rear CT will make the rear end move about a little more, same as on loose gravel.  Just make sure your grip is firm, but not too tight and after the first few times, you'll probably not even notice.
