Potenza Empty Potenza

Post  wayne Tue Sep 14, 2010 11:04 pm

I have a lot of miles on my 205 65 15 potenza and the out side tread is feathering and is rounding off.
But, I have been burning up the twisties this year with it.
Im running 38 to 40 pounds of air in it.
Anyone else got feathering on the out side edges?
It has been a very good tire, and it seems the more it gets used the better it works, Im going to run it as long as I can, heck, it may last another year, I dont know, Im guessing I have over 25k on it, but this your I have been putting alot on it and really hitting the cornners, and enjoying the sheet out of it.
I hate to retire it, Im going to go with something else, I dont know yet what Im going with.

Anyway, any one else have any feathering on the edge?

I know a guy that wore the edge down far enough that the steel belt was showing in half the tire. middle of the tire still had some good tread on it. He was running a kumbo tire on a goldwing.

I tried to get some pictures of it, but it was to dark in the shop under the fender.
Ive never heard of any other tire on a bike doing this so far.
You can run your hand across it and it is smooth one way and the other, it is sharp edges on it.
I have seen tires do this, but they were on cars.

Potenza Empty Edges wearing first

Maybe your aspect ratio a little tall. I run the 205/50/17 Potenza G019 grid, and like my motorcycle tire, wear is in the center always!

The other thing that comes to mind is an alignment problem, sounds like your rear tire is scalloping.

Wayne.

Mine feathered when I rode 4 days of non-stop riding in the mountains in Tenn, N. Georgia, and NC last year. Feathering is just your tire working great! Our karting tires feather when they are working good and we look for it!

You have no worries dude! Ride it like you stole it!

I usely do. but I am slowing down.
Im getting ready now to pull the engine and paint the one I have on the bench and put it in.
I have over 75k on the motor and last summer, I was useing 1qt every 1500 miles, so i did a compression test, and I have 140 in one cyl. and 150 in the other, the book calls for 171. It runs better than it ever has.
The engine that I have on the bench I picked up for $550 and has 4k on it, it came out of a 06
