am i nuts...
Posed this question on the 'Haven' site, want to see what some of you guys have to say. Been planning a trip to see the new grandson since last winter. Its 2000 miles to northern California. From there want to swing down to Phoenix to see an uncle, 1100 miles. Then back to S. Dakota, 1400. Originally wanted to take 3 wks for this but if it happens will have to do it in 2. Figured 3.5 days at Arcata and the same in Phoenix. Have to average 650 miles for the 7 days of travel. Am I nuts....

I don't think so at all... I'd love to be able to make a trip like that and 650mi a day should be pretty do-able

Be sure to leave yourself room to rest if you need it and not such a hectic schedule.

That is ten hours a day in the saddle. I would try a test run first. Hope on the bike, pick a direction and go 150 miles, turn around and head home. No imagine doing that twice a day for the 7 days of riding you will have. Don't know what type of trips you are used to, but you will need your butt in shape for this one.

Five-six hours is killer for me, even after modding my seat and making my own bead pad. But I'm not a spring chikkin anymore, either. :farao:

Re: am i nuts...
I have done plenty of 400 mile plus days and for me that is what I call hard riding! Hard on the butt and hard on the concentration. Yours is doable, but at 650 miles per day, I agree with you.
You is a bit Crazy!!!!!!

re am I NUTS
It is very doable but I think it will turn your trip into torture instead of enjoyment ,I know one day of it would be torture to me.

If you end up doing it, you might want to do the paper work and just get your Iron Butt number.

Re: am i nuts...
I ride long distances. My typical trip is over 4,000 miles. I've had the "pleasure" of being forced to ride 800 mile days to attend an unexpected funeral. It's real work. And even where the posted limit is 70, you'll be hard pressed to average 65mph. You gotta stop for fuel both for the rider and the ride. I'd count on 13 hour days.
If you enjoy riding and your ergonomics are good, it'll be a challenge but achievable. And you'll have primo bragging rights when your done.
Post your post-mortem trip report.

Re: am i nuts...
Are you nuts?...Hell Yes.
But the ride sounds like fun. I regularly do 700-800 mile days. NC to south FL to see the kids.
If your bike is set up for distance it is no problem.
But then again I ride a Nomad which was designed to eat up the miles.
Good Luck
