Hi All I am new to this area of biking. I have just purchased a sidecar for my bike (a Honda ST1300) Yea I know it is not the normal type of bike for a chair but I want to keep on riding and after an accident I have found my back is just too weak to trust in holding up my bike after a trip. So what I would like help with is what rim can I get to put a car tire on for this bike I do not like the idea of spending inexcess of $1000.00 to have my rim converted to 15 inches when it has an 17 inch on there now. ANy help would be appreciated Thanks

Hey Diver, thx. visiting us. Hope you had a good X-mas.
I don't quite understand your question but I think you want to go dark for the
bike right now, not for the sidecar.
If you're riding a 17" I quess you should stick with that. I've no idea what size your
rim and your present tire are.
Just check a tire calculator to find out how heigh a specific tire will be compared
to your present one.

Since a CT is less round you might need to grind a bit on the fender.
Don't you consider selling the bike and going with an X?
Seems more relaxt for your bike. You can also ad a backrest.
I'm not such a handy guy, so I hope others will chime in soon.
Good Luck.

Hi : Thanks for your input. I am going to the darkside because of the sidecar. The dealer had suggested he redo the rear rim and place a 15 inch tire on there but wants $1000.00 to do it. I do not like the idea of going so small on the rear rim as it will substantially reduce the ground clearance. I was hoping that someone might know if the 16 inch rims on some of the V twins from Honda might fit my bike as I am told that I can place a 205 60/16 or maybe a smaller one on such a rim . My rim is 5.5 inches so I should have some room to play. There is a 170 60/17 on there now with lots of room around it.
Again thanks for the help Jim 🎅

Here is a tire calculator. http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos
but the closest I could see on a 17 would be a big difference in height/width being a 215/65/17 car tire
