New to the Darkside Empty New to the Darkside

Post  ckilmer75 Fri Nov 13, 2009 3:33 pm

Twisted Evil 2002 VT1100c (Spirit) here...

Hello everyone. I'm finally making the jump to the Darkside. I just ordered my tire online and have a friend that's going to mount it for me when it comes in. I ordered a "Kumho Power Star 758 - 165/80/15".

My stock tire is a Dunlop D404 170/80/15... and it does not last but maybe 5000 miles (guestimation since I never thought to record the mileage when I replaced it)

Anyway, Does anyone else currently use the Kumho Power Star and know somewhere local I can buy them? I already ordered this one, but next time it would be helpful. Unless I decide to try out a wider tire :-)

I'll let ya'll know how it goes once I get the tire on. I ride to and from work everyday (42 mile round trip) so It'll get broken in quick. What do ya'll recommend for tire pressure? I'm approx 215lbs.

Glad I stumbled across the site.

Chris

The Kumho was my first tire. It'll do just fine.

Expect about 15k out of that tire. It will go on easy.

Try 40 psi first. Adjust 5 psi up and down to see what you like.

You'll love the Kumho. You shouldn't notice much of a difference between that tire and your MT. It's a great one. I got 12K on mine. Welcome to the family!

Thanks for the response and the PSI info. I should have the tire later this week. I can't wait to try it out.

Does anyone have a link to a good tutorial for changing out the tire on a Shadow? I'd like to get the tools I need so I can start doing it myself.

Best I can remember, some didn't like the counter steer, others had a high speed wobble problem that they attributed to the CT.Proubably other reasons but that is what comes to mind. But hey at leaste they were open minded enough to give it a try. Smile Smile Smile
