How long for "Break In" Empty How long for "Break In"

Post  SLCvtx1300R Fri Sep 18, 2009 9:39 pm

I know i have read this in some of the posts... but I have read literally hundreds of them in my initial research and my current searches aren't returning anything... so here goes...

I just mounted my gytt 205/70/15. What is the "Break In" and for how long? By this, I guess the points are:

1) How do I ride (not on freeways?, not on windy roads?, not faster than a certain speed?, not hard into corners (I think this is what I read)?, anything else?)

2) How long until "anything goes"? Twisted Evil

Thanks for all of your insight!

Ride on all roads, just use a little common sense, don't get over aggressive until you get the feel for the tire and scuff it up a little. No big deal, just use common sense and enjoy ,enjoy, enjoy. It just gets better from here.Find the right tire pressure for you and ride Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

+1 at jerry's comment. Get rid of the molding on the CT and tyrn it up slowly.
Try out different situations like grids in the road to see how the bike reacts.
After that, you're better then ever.

The second thing for waiting so long is the mental game of it being a car tire and to get used the characteristics of the new tire. If you are comfortable with the tire...go far it!

All CT mfgs recommend a break in period whether or not mold release is used. I think Michelin still uses mold release. But like with any new tire, put some miles on it to get used to it. Take it to a parking lot and do some figure 8s. Do some hard breaking and get used to it before you go scraping pegs. Enjoy!
