high speed wobble
OK i just put the tire on and it only has maybe 200 miles on it. is this enough breakin time or what. when i get up to 95 or so i get a wobble that wasn't there before. i haven't done anything else but change the tire. other than that i like the the tire change. nice and stable and 'normal speeds' as my wife calls it. of course she say that the 'high speed' wobble isn't a bad thing, that i shouldn't be going triple digits anyway.
yeh, maybe so , but it's much fun, and very easy to do.
i sure could use some input here, i read some other threads about the subject, i don't think there's any thing else i can do, and i really don't wont to change the tire again.
thanks

Re: high speed wobble
Stan,
Welcome to the darkside. Yes, this has happened to motorcycles with motorcycle tires as well..one day they don't have a wobble...next day they do!
Well the car tire because of grip will make other parts of your bike show up a wobble when a motorcycle tire will NOT!
1. Shock bushings worn...replace
2. Steering head bearings worn....... replace...especially the 1300's
3. Front wheel bearing worn...replace
4. Windshield makes it wobble at high speeds....take windshield off and see if wobble goes away. Adjust windshield height and angle
5. Air pressure in the rear tire. Change it by at least 5 psi and go ride to see if problem goes away!
6. Two riding or weight distribution will fix the wobble also.
Do the easy one first and narrow it down to what the cause is. Almost every one who has had a wobble has found something different and no majority to the solution. Remember, the rest of us ride without any wobbles or repaired ours! You should NOT wobble and it NOT the car tire. If it was you car would shake...hehehehehe

Re: high speed wobble
off the top of my head, I thought it was about 3oz rear and 2oz front for the beads?
Did the old weights come off the rim when the new tire went on?
Year, mileage on the bike, type of rear shocks, any play in the stem bearings, mileage on the front tire (could be cupped), is the front tire balanced as well?
ANy other mods to the bike about the same time you changed the rear tire?
Lots of questions, but they can all help narrow down more specific solutions...

Re: high speed wobble
the bike is an 04 neo spec 3 with mag wheels, they never had weights, the bike has 20000 +/-
the front tire has mybe 2000 +/- miles , it never had a high speed wobble before. i still need to check the shock bushings and other things talked about in the other threads. but i did put only 2oz
of dyna beads in tire , none in the front, it starts wobbling at 95 or so. it never did this before, and i've had the bike up 130 on I10( i live in north florida ) with a honda line windshield, the windshield did flex a little, so i felt it best to back off.
thanks

Re: high speed wobble
I put 4 oz of dynabeads in my back tire. It's a 205. I know it only needed 2, because we balanced it ourselves. But later on down the road, the roadwear may change this. So, I put 4 in just to be safe. Try this and see what happens.
There's no wobble at any other speed? And it's not road surface? It wobbles at 95 no matter what hwy you are on?
if you have 20k on your bike, I'd look at the bushings and such.....

Re: high speed wobble
it starts the wobble at 95 and keeps it up i went up to maybe 98 i decided to slow done, and the road is the same road i've been traveling on for 12 years so i'm sure it's not that. i do intend on checking the schock bushings tomorrow. i'm also going to adjust the air in the tire, i have it 40 psi i'll try at 35 and see what happens, just play with it awhile i guess. i'll most likely get some more beads next week and put some more in. shouold i put some in the front also even if it's not a new tire,, it has maybe 2000 or miles on it.
i really like the way the ct fells planted to the road,, i live about a mile down a dirt road, and it does a lot better than the mt in the sand and dirt. around curves it fells kinda 'stiff felling' but i'm thinking that once it gets broke in it will be better. not that it hard to ride or any thing, it's just different.
thanks

Wobble
Just for my twocents worth.....When we changed my c/t over to the Hydroedge, the weights stayed the same with a perfect balance. It was a static balancer , though. I saw this and decided to check mine. With the front end getting light at 120, I had to chicken out. But no wobble whatsoever. If it's of any help.

I dig the orange in your avatar. You got a larger pic of your ride and could you post it on here? That's a nice looking color!

LOL I've been tryin' !
Hey Twin, I've been tryin' to figure out how to post pictures and such. I only seem to have time to really tinker with it here at work. Pretty bad for a maintenance mech. that works on robots, huh? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I did have a question for you guys, though. I seem to have a wobble up front while going through cuves hitting a bounce. Is that the springs/bushings up front giving me fits?
Really digging this tire, I still haven't got the cojones enough to really dig into any twisties yet. I'm gettin' there.
As I said, any help on posting some pics would be great.
Later all, keep the rubber side down.

I went to progressive springs and alls balls bearings. Really helped. Improves confidence too.
Have you switched over to Dynabeads yet?

Re: high speed wobble
Haven't got the dynabeads yet. You reccomend them, even if the balance came out good? I'll consider the next project to be springs and bearings then. It's definitely soft up front, with only 29,000 miles on it. Would've expected better. Any place/person you'd like to see get my money for the beads?

Re: high speed wobble
get the beads right from the factory.... Last time I went to a stealer he said $5.00 an ounce...... You can get the whole starter kit from them very reasonable..... www.innovativebalancing.com

You need a photo bucket account or a face book account and load pic there. Open them up and right click to get "Copy image location" and then open this thread and choose the little photograph icon and past the "image location" and press "send" and that should be it!
Yes, my front forks are shot also!
