Land Speed Racing on the dark side
Does anyone know of anyone that has raced an LSR event on a square tire ? I am going to try to run Maxton in April and info on any previous runs may help out if I get some restance from the tech guys. The rules don't explicitly disallow it , so I am gonna try to get it in. The testing at the dragstrip yesterday went ok with a couple of 141 mph passes , but still fine tuning the suspension.

Re: Land Speed Racing on the dark side
Wrongway,
I know you were about 4 mph off your regular time and we assume that's the weight of the tire, but how's your ET? Does it track straight? No wobbles or shimmies?
How you doing keeping the front wheel on the ground?????
Sorry, I am not sure on the rules of street bike racing, but it should be the same for slicks.

the bike handles great and feels stable. On passes where I had no one in the other lane , i made some turns after the traps into the other lane to see how it would corner at maxton getting onto the long shutdown at speed and it felt ok , just took a little more pushing on the bars.

I extended the swing arm 9" and that helps keep the front down , but also moves the weight off of the rear. That makes it spin easier and even with the wide tire I was able to break the tire loose.
Drag slicks are not allowed ( not even on cars) in land speed racing . that is why I am trying street tirestwin1300 wrote:

I've had mine up to 132 mph on many occassions that's about all she's got . I run a Cooper Zeon 2XS it's never wobbled .

Re: Land Speed Racing on the dark side
I'm not sure about Maxton, but at Bonneville they wouldn't hassle you. They really only care about the speed rating and overall condition of the tires. I've even heard of folks running MT tires on small cars to lower the rolling resistance with a smaller contact patch and there were no issues, so I'd say you are safe.

Re: Land Speed Racing on the dark side
this bike holds the ECTA National Record in the naked 1650 class at 189 MPH , so I am hoping to up that a bit :-)
Would that make it the first darkside LSR record holder ?

Re: Land Speed Racing on the dark side
Maxton is a standing mile , with a .9 mile shut down. I have run my old camaro there also and got a few records with that. but 180mph in a car is notheing like 190 on a naked bike :-)

Re: Land Speed Racing on the dark side
You've got to post a vid of the races. This i've got to see...i'd love to be doing it though.
Re: Land Speed Racing on the dark side
I dont have any video from the bike or car at maxton. I will try to put some camera stuff on it in April at the next race.

Re: Land Speed Racing on the dark side
for the record...
In September of 2006, history was made when Chris Carr piloted Dennis Manning's BUB Streamliner 'Seven' into the record books as the world's fastest motorcycle—setting an average speed of 354.832 MPH.
