Hello everyone, I'm glad to have found your site, there is a wealth of info here. I have a 2008 vulca 2000 LT and have gone through 4 MC tires in 4467 miles, that's about 1000 miles between puncture flats, I've decided to come over to the DS. I purchased a goodyear assurance 205/60-16 tire and am ready to mount it, before I start I have a few questions. 1. Is the goodyear harder to mount than the MC tire,(can it be spooned on or do I need to take it to a shop)? 2. Are there any mods I need to do to the bike before I put the tire on? 3. Should I air the new tire up before I put it on the bike or after the wheel is back on the bike? 4. Are there any questions I forgot to ask before I mount the tire? Thanks in advance for any guidance you can give me. If I keep buying MC tires I will have more money invested in rear tires than I do in the bike itself. I am looking forward to actively participating in this board.

Is the goodyear harder to mount than the MC tire,(can it be spooned on or do I need to take it to a shop)? Yes and No! The car tire is softer side walls so in a way it's easier to mount, but can be a booger sometimes! 2. Are there any mods I need to do to the bike before I put the tire on? Not sure with the Vulcan, not that many here on the darkside! 3. Should I air the new tire up before I put it on the bike or after the wheel is back on the bike? Well that depends if it fits or not...hehehehe Can't say, some bikes like mine, just stick it on. Other like the some 1800's have to let the air out to squeeze it in and then air it back up! 4. Are there any questions I forgot to ask before I mount the tire? Yes, clean the rim with a water hose and a rag to remove any old soap from previous mountings, and take all precautions when mounting a tire! It take extreme pressure to mount some of the car tires. DO NOT HOLD THE AIR CHUCK ON THE VALVE STEM WHEN TRYING TO SEAT THE BEAD!!! Secondly use vegetable oil and act like someone else bought the oil and slop it all over it. Do not do the once around swipe that most tire guys do! Thanks in advance for any guidance you can give me. If I keep buying MC tires I will have more money invested in rear tires than I do in the bike itself. I am looking forward to actively participating in this board.

Welcome to our site and you are going to love the darkside. And when you get the tire puncture with the car tire on back. Just plug it and keep rolling down the hiway! I have two plugs in mine!

1) you'll have to do some measureing for yourself
2) I'd take it to a shop. They are harder to mount and to get to bead.
3) You might need to air it up after. Depends on your bike, but let us know.
4) Buy some dynabeads to balance the tire. Throw those in after you get it all installed just to be sure everything fits.

Nice choice in tires. Love the comment about rear tire investments. You should get a lot of miles out of the CT AND no worries about flats. Plug and go...but you won't get as many of those.

Careful with the accerleration on that 2000, you might be able to lift that front end up with the CT on the back! (not kidding)

Well, I'm home, on the darkside that is. I mounted a goodyear assurance 205/60-16 on my 2008 vulcan 2000 LT this morning. The tire looks and fits great with a lot of room to spare, So far after a short ride I feel the tire made a great bike even better. Thanks all for all the info and support.

Welcome to the darkside.....You didn't say so I'll assume it went on okay. Let us know how you like it after you get a few miles on it. I sat on a 2009 a few days ago. Fit pretty good, but I'm wanting to try out the the new Voyager......Always was a Star Trek fan

I went to Americade for the first part of the week, about 150 miles of highway, I was the only darksider there, the bike was a hit and many took photos of it. I now have 712 miles on the tire and find it to be one of the best decisions I've made in motorcycling, the 2000 vulcan purchase being the first. The bike handles and rides great with 36 psi in the goodyear TT 205/60-16, it's pretty safe to say I will never look back. On the highway at consistent speeds of 90 mph+ the bike rides like a limo, the road repair lines or ground sections of roadway don't upset the bike at all. At slow speeds I can ride in circles with my feet on the boards at all but stopped speeds. The tire also allows me to set my Ohlin's shock at 4 turns out with a 460 pound load on the bike instead of 19 turns out and gives me a better ride without bottoming. If there is a down side to this, I can't find it, thanks again for all the help along the way.
