Post  loiseau on Tue Mar 31, 2009 10:13 am

Hi everyone I have a 1996 Yamaha Royal Star and wanted to know witch CT would fit my bike , the MT size thats on now is 150/90/15. Just find out about the darkside from a friend and sign up today. I have read the advantages of having a CT and cant wait to try it.

Measurethe clearance you have around your tire now. By going to a 165/80/15 you will gey a tire that is 5/8" wider than your 150. The 165 is a good tire to start with.

Both Kumho and Federal make a tire this size that memebers have used with success. Me included.

Let us know how this works out. I've been looking hard at the royal star.... Waiting for it to come out with a vmax engine before I pull the trigger.

I run at 40 psi, but tire pressure is rider and tire dependent. Some like a 32psi soft ride. Some like a higher psi for a firmer ride.

Start at the recommended pressure and add and subtract till you get the ride and feel that's right for you.

155/80 will make it a little shorter. Let us know how it does? Welcome to the darkside!

Height issue is a non-issue just add about 10 lbs of air to you rear shock lifts you right back up Smile

Here are pics of my 165/80R15 Kumho Powerstar 758 on my '07 RSV. (Same height as stock M/C tire)
In the pics I have about 4000 miles on it. Started at 40lbs now at 35lbs. Sticks like glue and I aim for the tire snakes and other imperfections just to see if I can get any negative handling. No issues whatsoever! Love it!
