new to the site

hey new to the site and idea of going to the dark side. i have a couple of questions i hope they can be answered.
1. i have an 06 road star 9 spoke rim that has a 150/80/16 MC tire. what size ct can i use????
2. I'm a pretty hard rider and Ive been reading that at over 85 you get speed wobble is this true????
3. what are the best brands of ct's should i use??
4. does it need a tube and if not can i bring it to any tire shop for mount and balence?

The 9 spoke wheel is cast so a tubeless tire will work. The best tire is debatable. More and more people are using the goodyear tripple tread. As for size there is a thread here that Horse posted showing how to measure your bike for that. Found it..

thanks i was thinking toyo t1r 185/50/16 just looking for something to fit not to go bigger or wider

Worm....so far the wobble has to do with problems associated with the Honda 1300's. We haven't seen the issues with other make of bikes so far!

This is going to be a little bit taller than your current tire, but should be okay. 131 vs 120.

now dumb quetion is a 185/75/16even taller

ok the first number is the tire width in mm.
the second number is the height in % of the width.
third number is the rim size.

so a 185/85r16 is taller then a 175/85r16
and here is the kicker that you can't even go by that at all .
from manufacturer to manufacturer you get different sizes of the same number.
look in tire rack :

as you find your size, and click on a tire, then click on specs, you will see that width and height .
so that is why i measure and measure again to find exactly what will work.

that was a great video horseman8m thanks a lot. i know it's going take me like 4 days to do what that guy did in 10min lol but it did look very easy. so dyna beads are the way to go i assume even with a ct.

I'm sold on dyna beads. They keep your tire balanced for the life of the tire and at any speed. I see no cupping or abnormal wear on my tires with dynabeads.

Make sure you put them in a "dry" tire. If you lube it to get it on, you will want to wait till the lube dissapates before addind dynabeads....couple months and 500 miles should do.

I did the old fashion way with weights and static balance.
Most here swear by dyna-beads , others don't .
it is up to you , ride on weights for a while and you can switch later.
go to you tube and search for "motorcycle tire change" or "static balance"
and you will see a video with how to do it and it is easy to do.
