Tire has been intensly scrutinized in all areas, including rain performance. I can't say enough good things about it. I've tried several different air pressures. I'm at 27 psi and it still sticks like velcro in tight curves, no squirm, and rides great. I was previously concerned when I saw posted psi's of 40-50, no way I could handle that on my bad roads. My buddy followed me through some serious twisties and said, the tire never looked soft or rolled onto the shoulder, the tread stayed planted at all angles, he was amazed, and so am I at how solid the handling feels. The only time I notice any slight pulling or tracking is below 20 mph on heavily crowned roads on the gutter side, where I never ride anyway, I always hug the center line, and those low speeds amount to very little of my riding.

Wildside 300 mile update Empty 5000 mile update for me!

Post  DS-Wing-Nut Tue May 27, 2008 8:28 am

I had similar responses this weekend to my tire. I was riding with a group of about 10 V-twins and 3 Crotch Rocket Sport Bikes. I told them I didn't have any problems in curves, twisties, etc... Of course they didn't believe me.... Well we had some pretty curvy 20 MPH and 30 MPH curves and twisties on our route with good S-curves etc in them. I told one of the CR guys to follow me through them and watch the tire and my riding.

Well I made every curve at well over 45MPH or more in each of the curves.. scrapping floor boards on more than one occassion..... We stopped for a moment and when I dismounted he came over and was just looking at the tire and then said, "I can't believe it but I do now since I seen it with my own eyes." "on every curve you took every bit of your tire was on the ground and it would just squish on either side to stay on the road" "You had more rubber than any of us on the road" I just smiled big and said, "now do you see what I'm talking about"!!

He said, Yes but I still won't put one on my Triumph!! Oh well..... to each his own.

I love this Douglas 205..... It super.. I have over 5,000 miles on it and it still looks brand new!

Thanks everyone!!

It comes to mind, the Darkside is somewhat of a revival for me, but vastly improved. My first road bike was a 53 Panhead I dug out of my Pepere's barn in Canada, 40 years ago. It was pretty rough, mostly original, except the tires. I said, Pepay, what the hell kind of tires are these? With a scowl, he replied, "Dey fit good, an I don get stuck in da mud no more". They were 6.00 x 16, 6 ply truck tires! Reg. up front, serious snow tread rear. After much work, I drove it 200 miles to get it home, rigid frame, springer front end, old brutal roads, hard core. Then it was a little while before I could afford some 5.10 hog tires. Army Surplus $7 each. Hey Bobby, is that one for the Dark-est side category?

So do I, but at 16, pics were the last thing on my mind. I was kinda embarassed about my Canadian farmers bike. I sold it the next spring and bought a 66 FLH, first year Shovelhead, major upgrade, Farmall Tractor to a Cadillac. Next winter I put a custom rigid frame and springer on it, go figure!

Wildside 300 mile update Empty Rolling on the miles

Post  navyx Tue Jun 03, 2008 9:42 am

Congrats on the darksider. I am currently on a trip that started on May 23rd in Jacksonville, FL. I went to Va Beach, VA then to Indian Head, MD then to DC for rolling thunder. Then it was off to Berkeley Heights, NJ in upper NJ to visit and old friend. Then back down to Atlantic City and to Cape May, NJ. Our son just graduated from Coast Guard Basic Training om May 30th. A short stop in Marion Station, MD to visit my grandmothers old farm and then back to Va Beach. I head back to Jax later this week. So far this trip on the 03 1800C darksider has logged more than 1500 miles. When I get back to Jax the trip will total about 2300 miles. No glitches with the tire. I have kept pressure between 41-44 psi with speeds up to 95 mph. NJ turnpike traffic is crazy. No squiggles or shimmys. Tire was well balanced when installed. No bad weather encountered but past experience proved wet streets are no match for the 205 GYTT. Future plans are for a trip to Cleveland and Toronto, Canada in July and possibly off to Sturgis in August. The best part is when I am all finished the tire will be barely broken in.

Thanks Navyx, That Jersey Pike traffic is brutal, and tolls, tolls ,tolls! The Garden State Pkwy isn't much better. Try I-287 next time, traffic is usually less, and no tolls! Have a good one, Godspeed!
