Twin's lite mod...........Enjoy!
Here's my Harbor Freight running lites mod. $29 for the lites plus every day materials hanging around and easy install. Very in-expensive to do, but welding and fabricating skills required. Looks and works fantastic.
Tools required....(stick welder or any thing better, degree wheel or protractor, portaband or saws all, grinder (bench or hand), drill and bits, and hole saw).
First I measured the frame degrees with a protractor while I held the bike up in the riding condition. It was 10 degree on the 1300C on the front down tubes. So I cut a piece of 1 1/2" EMT (Electric Metalic Tubing) at 10 degrees with the other end at 90 degrees.
Next I cut a hole with a 1 1/2" hole saw to fit the EMT into the 1/8" flat plate I had laying around all while laying out what I wanted the lite brackets to be.
After I cut the flat plate out with a portaband, I added them to the two pieces of EMT to be able to weld them. NOTE (Next time I will only use one piece of EMT, because you will see I cut them in half, so one piece will make both half's).
Next I welded both pieces from the under side, so NO welds will show up on the top.
After welding them, you see how good they fit without nothing holding them up........this is the way they will be on the bike with the welds on the bottom side...you will see the welds better on another pic. This is before sanding and painting them and without lites installed.
Here is the lites installed on the brackets with the welds exposed to the bottom. Top is clean looking. You can see how easy the install is...tie wraps hold it into place. NOTE (Trick is to wrap the tie wrap twice around the bracket before you put it thru end of the tie wrap to connect it. It's strong when doubled up.. Two seperate tie wraps are not as strong as one double). Of course for anyone who thinks tie wraps don't hold up well, use the common hose clamp and paint it black.
Here's what they look like installed and wired.
Here they are with the shop lites out....Pretty dramatic look and the triangle light pattern aught to make you seen better by traffic in the day or nite.
This is what I called my "twin lite mod" that I posted on another site. Just thought you guys might appreciate it here. Wiring is another post. (Note......that the running lites in the blinkers have been disconnected and now I only run the new running lites, blinkers are still functional).....Thanks guys. I hope my mod I posted helps you guys out. The running lites from HF are 55 watts, so they light up the road on both sides at nite and really kill all the blind spots from the headlite. I only put them on because I daily ride and would like to be seen better, but the nite riding experience was a plus.

Bassmaster,
They really do light the night. I have seen them in action. Twin made me a pair of brackets and sent them to smokey. Long story but he promised to make me some more. Spent $29 at HF and these little jewels really light the night. Gives a lot more visibility for the on coming cagers during the day also.

Re: Twin's lite mod...........Enjoy!
Looks good pard. I'm planning a mod to my bike due to the location of our new home. We moved out in the country and now I have a 35 mile commute to work each way through deer infested 2 lane road. Fortunately here in WY there are oinly 7 curves in the entire state so as long as I have light I can see for a lOOOOONNNNNGGG ways. Now, the snow will be around until March or April so I have plenty of time to get lights on the bike before riding it again. Here's my idea for those who want to go a little different approach.
I'm changing out my mirrors with a set that have a turn signal built into the front of them. This will make my stock turn signals useless (sorta) I have a set of billet turn signal mounts and will soon have a set of chrome HID 2" lights. They will be mounted in place of the stock turn signals and give tons and tons of light to watch out for deer, antelope, UFO's etc. The left one will be wired in with my highbeam switch so when I meet a car I can drop it off when I go to my low beams and still have my right light scanning the ditch ahead. This may sound odd, but I'll post some pics when I get it finished and you'll all realise what a evil genious I really am
Oh well, I think it will work out. Sorry to de-rail your thread there pard, your method works great and looks nice I just have to be a little different.

George,
No dude, shoot! We can't have to many good ideas. Post some pics of your job when it's done and upload them here.
Glad you came....you don't know what a smile that put on my face to see my brother here. One thing. I disconnected my running lites in my blinkers and made the new running lites on all the time. Blinkers still work. But here's what I really wanted to say....the lower you got the lights the less you have to worry about offending on coming traffic and they really light up the sides of the road. If I am not mistaken....55 watts is the wattage of our low beams any way, so it's a lot of light and the shape of the HF lights really throws it around.
Really glad you have gotten moved and now you can hang around and play some with us.

Re: Twin's lite mod...........Enjoy!
As for another option, although less custom and creative, I used the Big Bike Parts lights (50W I think) and the Big Bike Parts mini lights (20W) for the signals. I have the driving lights rigged on a relay to come on with the highbeams and these suckers light up the night!! (I used a Kewl Metal dual mount windshield bracket)...

That is an ingeniously simple solution! I love it.
I mounted mine from my highway pegs, but not everyone has that option and yours looks good.

Does anyone know the part number for the Harbor Freight lights? I'm still in the learning process of things when it comes to doing my own work on my bike. I haven't had to do engine work for over 20 years, so I have a lot to learn and remember.

Shebear,
Since Bobby likes to send people empty boxes and then to redeem himself he sent the brackets he made for me to replace the empty box. He said he was going to make me another set for my Valk. Since I don't have any brackets to attach my lights to and still have my HF lights in the box. The part number I have on my box is SKU #37537. Hope that helps.

Thanks, Tanglefoot, that does help! I think he was too busy thinking about mailing empty boxes to see my question As soon as I finally get my act together, I know that I will have questions on the wiring. We've got way too much going on for the next month or two and I will have to wait.

Where did you get them for $29? I just checked online, figuring I'll order them now, and they are $39.

Hey smokey,
When you get your brackets for the twin mod...you need to sand and paint them. I didn't have time to get them done. If you have any issue on how they mount, check the pics in the thread and remember the 10 degrees I made into them should make the lights sit level. I also didn't drill any holes because I didn't know what lights you are going to buy. Enjoy!

Shebear, I bought them ar Harbor Freight in Baton Rouge and I will have to check my receipt but I think they were $29 they could have been $39. When you have as much money as I have you don't pay that much attention to ten bucks.
