tire or speedometer?

Post  bluedog on Sun Jul 12, 2009 6:36 pm

Today i placed a douglas x trac2 195/65/15 on a 06 1300s ,trying tire out i ran about 100mph for 10 miles ,i know i was going fast but it felt like 60 to 70mph is the tire making the ride smoother or is speedometer that much more off?

Speedo is probably off a lot now as that tire is quite a bit shorter than the stock one and stock the speedo is off. The ride may be better as well, but you also gave up a fair amount of top end and raised your cruise RPM's by running a short tire like that. Of course the trade off is that you will now have better acceleration from the effective lowering of your final drive ratio.

I run the 205/65/15 and my speedo is off by 12%. 100 indicated is 88 actual. (not that I would ever go that fast)

Can anyone advise ,what size tire do i need to get my topend speed back?the 195/65/15 is perfect for my c50t,but vtx1300 is working too hard, would be find for city riding but most of my miles is highway.Spoke to a tire man he said tires are sized by ratios,so he could'nt tell me a size for bike, but was i going to get myself killed putting cts on m/cs.What c/t is closest to stock?

to put a taller tire in mine I would have to grind down the inner fender supports and shave all my bolts in there to match, some have done this and put on a 215 which is much bigger.

tire size

Post  starider on Thu Oct 29, 2009 12:55 pm

I installed the 16" VTX1800 rim on my bike with a 205/65/16 Goodyear. The tire and rim is over an inch taller than stock.
Speedometer is way off. I'm doin 68 when the speedometer is reading 75. Checked with GPS. Cool
