New Darksider with a couple Q's Empty New Darksider with a couple Q's

Just installed the Mich HE 205/65-16 yesterday. I've been reading quite a bit through this forum and the VTXOA forum about darksider issues and have a couple questions.

- I ground my fender rail down when I moved up to the Metz 200 (just in case). Other than that I just installed the tire. Did I miss anything that should have been done?

- Tire rubbing on driveshaft. Saw a few posts about it, is this anything to worry about or not?

- On avg. how many miles will it last? Of course assuming I dont damage it requiring replacement first.

- I noticed a few people having big issue getting the tire to seat on the bead when they installed it. I had no such problem, anyone know why people have had this problem? This is more just for curiosity.

Thanks gang, and I will post a review after bike week and let ya know what I think.

Oh and Nordakbassmaster - Love that avatar, seems like everytime im scrolling through I have to stop and take a peek at it..haha.

No..you shouldn't need to do anything else on the grinding stuff and just install the tire. Dynabeads might be a benefit to the car tire in balancing for you. But that's the only thing I can think of, I would do differently than you did.

Don't know of anyone having issues with the tire touching the shaft. A lot of guys on here are close, but I haven't seen a post with one dragging the drive shaft........?????? I'll check and see or maybe someone else that knows someone with this problem will post. First I heard of it. Must be an 1800 thing....hehehehe

I don't know the average miles yet! I have been accused of leaving rubber every time I stop and take off.....So what is the true mileage you can get.....I do know this for what I did get out of my first one and all the burnouts...I had 15,000 miles and a 1/4 of the tread left. A motorcycle tire would have been gone at 2,000 miles or less if I rode it the same way I ride the car tire.

About the having problems seating the bead.....it's the 1300 guys that have to try at it. We (1300's) have a narrower rim and requires a certain measurement to be able run a 205 and requires upwards to 100psi and higher to get one to seat...but the 1800's have a wider rim and the options are wide open and most seat the bead between 50psi and 80psi.

I hope this answers your questions. Thanks for asking. If you are going to consider dyna beads...check in our vendor section for "Gary in Indiana".

Thanks for the reply Tech1300. I checked into the dynabeads, wow that's some cool technology. Sometimes it's the simplest of things that turn out to be great finds when you have someone smart enough to engineer it! Looking to order some from Gary in Indiana.

my tire seemed to touch the shaft initially... but it doesn't now. I think it probably settled into the rim or something. Dunno...I'm not a tire guy.

I think you can expect 30k miles from a good car tire if you are an average rider. You may have to grease your splines at 15k.
