New to the Darkside Empty New to the Darkside

Post  Mosrite241 Thu Apr 03, 2014 5:59 pm

I have a 2007 Yamaha Midnight Star 1300. I went to the dark side trying to get more milage out of my rear tires. I run 350 to 420 miles per week. The Florida asphalt eats MC tires like crazy. My 1st tire was a Radar 205/60/16. I got over 17,000 miles out of this tire. I was running 34 to 38 psi. I was a little disappointed with my results but I still saved a ton of dough as I payed about 1/2 for the car tire ($72.00) vrs a MC ($160.00) tire. I recently installed a Uniroyal tourmaster 205/60/16 ( $43.00 left over from Wal-Mart) and I am really pleased so far with the handling of the bike. The Radar tire was more of a flat square sport tire and I found I really had to force the counter steering. The Uniroyal is more rounded and it performs almost like a MC tire. Per my mechanic I am trying 44 psi in the rear and 40 psi in the front. So far so good. Bike rides great. Thanks so much for this forum as I gathered some very good information and also the tire size for my bike. Ride hard, ride safe....

Sounds good. Keep us informed on how it works out.
While that pressure seems high, if it handles good, gets better wear and has even wear great.
