New Darksider

Post  seabeechief on Sat Apr 12, 2014 7:38 am

OK, guys.  I have pulled the trigger and purchased a Michelin Primacy Alpine PA3ZP and a Bridgestone Battleax BT45 for my '08 GL1800 Goldwing.  I will put them on May 6, 2014.  How much air should I start with?  What are the pros/cons about putting the Battleax on backwards?? I will be pulling a trailer with two in for 5k-6k this summer.  Any help you can offer will be appreciated.  Ride Safe!

I have a Bridgestone on the front and run 38psi in it and 36psi in my Michelin. Rear seems to be wearing evenly across.  thumbup

Thanks, Doc. That's a good place to start. I appreciate your help. We will be riding through the BRP in June for the first time. Looking forward to it.

Running BTX 130/70/18 backwards on my 1500GL, have 14,000 miles on it looks good for another 14k+, started @40 psi ,dropped to 38 psi .Have never run it frontwards. All roads all weather best move I made going DS.
Take care,
Be safe.

Lou, what is the reasons for mounting the front tire (BTX) backwards?

Conventional understanding is that Rear tyres are designed to provide greater grip under torque, mounted in normal rotation .If this is true, then think of the increase of grip under heavy breaking mounted backwards on the front. This is my understanding.

OK. That is a reasonable observation. Thanks.

OK, guys, it's official.....I have gone to the Darkside on my '08 GL1800. I had the Michelin Primacy mounted on the rear @ 36 psi and Bridgestone Battlax on the front @ 38 psi. I haven't ridden far on them yet, but so far I can't tell a lot of difference in handling. It seems just a little different, but not better or worse, just different. I'll know more in a couple of months and a few thousand miles.

Who do I contact to get a "Darksider" number and one of those little stickers that go on the rear fender. I might as well advertise my new endeavor. Thank you all for your ideas, explanations and information. Ride Safe!
